OK so I am still floating about. 66 days now and going strong. So great to see regulars and new people here. A big HELLO, WELCOME and WELL DONE.

Remember the first couple of days trying to stop smoking! And now look at the double digits people are up to! FANTASTIC! I can't believe how well I and everyone is going. We must all be bloody legends!

I have been reading through and so many experiences out there sound so similar.

There are things that are so hard to explain to someone who hasn't smoked or hasn't tried quitting.

Such as the thoughts and tricks your own mind will play trying to justify 'just one more smoke will be OK!' And the dreams! I have been angry at myself at smoking, when only dreaming about having a cig. I have even had dreams that I believe are just physco responses to the lack of Nicotine. I have never been a violent person, but early on I had some very strange dreams??!! (Beating people in the street with a rubber hose and a dead snake - Seriously brain, WTF??)

And the physical side! The good stuff like taste, smell, energy is great, but.... What about the chills? Was that me or did the Nicotine mess up my ability to feel warm and cold for a while??? The coughing up of stuff that turned my stomach and the sore throats as my body got rid of the crap. Lets not forget eating, either starving or not hungry, make your mind up body, lets get this sorted!

And this isn't done and over in a couple of days! 66 days in I still get cravings, I still get the odd grumpy feeling. Much better but still there.

Another thing I have learnt. Nicotine and smoking is much much worse than a lot of people acknowledge. Quitting is DAMN hard and anyone giving it a go deserves care and recognition.

WELL DONE all of you I am proud of myself and my fellow quitters.

Thanks Roseyk and kathyrose. Hi have to, as the adds say, "not quitting is harder". You can do it! I was not very strong but have discovered that if you stick with the fight, use the ideas and read the stories on this site, you can do it. Will power gets much stronger the more you exercise it. And after a while, the rewards of beating smoking far outweigh the cravings.

Firegod.... I think you've just about summed it up, I'm sitting nodding like a rabid politician agreeing with everything you've said and I genuinely believe that this site is without doubt the best 'stop smoking' tool of them all, real people in real time 'suffering'... I mean sharing their experiences and keeping each other going.

Everyone dig in, it's going to be a long road, but if I can do it so can you lot..... I'm relying on you. Well done Firegod and everyone else.

yeh I agree, it would be much harder going through chemo or the pain of emphasemia. I had a smoking related illness which put me in intensive care for 2 weeks and oh my goodness the pain was so intense....I gave up for 7 years after that....Now...as I find myself slipping back into the everyday habit I realised I have to STOP!!!! It is so worth it to not end up in that much pain again or lets be realistic....dead (as many smokers do end up dead from cancer or gangrene or one of those other delightful illnesses....deadly harmful toxic chemicals by the 1000's will do that to you I guess !!! so happy to read everyone's posts...excited to share...happy to have taken this fork in the road...thanks all
