I have smoked for the past 27 years... in that time I don't think I have ever gone without a cigarette for more than 24 hours... I have always been a social drinker, but have found in the last year I have been drinking everyday (I am sure I am an alcoholic) At 11.3o pm on the 13th January I had not only my last cigarette but also my last drink... My children (I am a single mother) are away at their dads.  I am determined to do this for not only myself, but for my children.  This is day 2 or approaching the 40th hour and I am just so overwhelmed with sadness.  I think I am sad that my children have had to self destruct... but I am so firm in my belief that when my children do return I will a new person, one that both my children and I will be proud of... Both Alcohol and Cigarette free!!

Alkie 13, Thank you!! I am not using any program for my alcoholism as I do live in a small town. I am now at the 72 hour and I am feeling good... I do have cravings, but have been lucky enough to be able to breathe through them... as I have gotten so far (for me 72hours is a lot)I believe that I will succeed! :) Funny I did read in here somewhere where someone was saying how you look years younger after giving up... that is something I am looking forward to (even though I am lucky enought that I don't look my age anyway), yet I can see that happening as I am finally after years drinking water... at least 3 litres a day! (before I would be lucky to have 1 litre a day)

Congratulations! You are doing sooo well. I too had a problem with alcohol and living in a country town didnt want people to see me going to AA meetings. I found resources online to help me - AA videos - made me feel not so alone and so much stronger. Keep up the good work - seriously - life is sooo much better without the weight on your shoulders... so it's worth it!
