Day 3, my smoking journal

Posted in Hints and tips

Today is day 3 of my i can quit journey. Honestly has not been too bad, i did have a couple of intense cravings however managed to distract myself. Have decided to reward my effort today and booked a Japenese head massage at Jala Head Spa. My strongest trigger is driving in my car especially when i finish work. I have been taking grapes with me so that i snack on the grapes to distract the urge. I am starting to have a little bit of phlegm start to release from my chest which surprisingly is helping with my resolve to stay smoke free. 'Dont aim for success if you want it: just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally' Anyway will check in tomorrow Staying strong

Hi Julznoble,

Thanks for sharing your update and well done for reaching day 3! The first few days can be some of the toughest, so it's great to hear you have been able to manage the cravings and have found ways to distract yourself.

It sounds like you have already figured out some strategies that work for you, like taking grapes in the car when the after-work trigger hits. Being aware of your triggers and having a plan to manage them makes a big difference. Sugar-free gum or lozenges can also be really helpful to have on hand as well.

Some people do notice increased coughing and phlegm in the early stages of quitting. It can be a bit unpleasant at times, but it's a sign that your lungs are clearing themselves out and starting to heal.

It's great to hear that you are rewarding yourself for the effort you are putting in. The Japanese head massage sounds like a lovely way to celebrate your success. Small rewards can really help reinforce the positive changes you are making as well.

If you'd ever like some additional support or want to talk through some strategies for managing triggers or cravings, you are always welcome to reach out to one of the Quitline counsellors on 13 78 48. We are always happy to help!

Thanks again for sharing your progress with the community. We look forward to hearing more throughout your quit journey!
