Can someone please help with tips/ suggestions about how to handle the morning cig when I reach my start date?
I'm on day 2 champrix & already dislike the taste & smell of cigs.
I'm ND & anxious about that first mornnig cig - probably the only one I enjoy each day.l

Thanks, eeycee

Hi and welcome @eeycee 👋

That first morning cigarette comes up a lot here, you’re definitely not alone. What does your usual morning routine look like at the moment?

A few things that have helped others:

  • Changing your morning routine - showering, making a cuppa, brushing your teeth, or even just delaying it as long as you can to break the habit.
  • People do say Champix usually helps with this and its good to hear its already starting to do its thing! A lot of members say by their quit day the taste and smell make that first cigarette is far less appealing.

Hope to see more posts from you @eeycee Keep us posted 🙂

Nicotine gave us jolts of dopamine.....a happy brain chemical that we miss even with nicotine administered  by NRTs such as the patch.    I might suggest treating yourself to something to replace that happy hit.  Perhaps a specialty coffee, hot chocolate  or a pastry to savour.   Rewarding ourselves can be very helpful as we feel happy to be getting something in return for our efforts.    Later in the day do things that you enjoy.   Chocolate pleases most people and dark chocolate is even good for you.    I mixed cocoa with banana and froze them as little treats.   I also changed my routine as not to smoke while the kettle boiled.

Hugs, kisses, phone calls, lavender, music and lots of things can provide the dopamine we lack.

@Happiness I spoke to a man at the chemist who told me that to get a dopamine hit without having a first morning cig I can go outside & look toward (not at) the sun and do some mindful breathing.
Today is quit day & I forgot to do it first thing thismorning :( Will write on hand for tomorrow.
My strategy today was to stay in bed as long as possible (after unsatisfying sleep - aka autistic non-sleep). But this afternoon I got triggered (yeet, just learned the word) by my 19yr daughter & had 3 puffs.
I don't know if I should brush my teeth again to get rid of the filthy taste, or leave it there to remind me why I don't want one.

@eeycee you’re doing really well. Day 1 is certianly the hardest and can feel messy and that’s totally normal - hopefully it wasn't too painful for you! And remember a few puffs doesn’t undo everything. Try your sunlight + breathing trick tomorrow and let us know how you go - hoping you YEET the cigs! 😁

@Chewy - ICQ I looked into the sun & started to do some arm stretches - unfortunately, I tore something & now moving my right arm is horrible. headaches are horrible. Im ASd and losing my trusty, reliable stim is causing me all sorts of pain - sucking my mouth (or a mint) is making everything worse. Fibromyalgia flare also not helping.
Day 4 No cigs - I had a cautionary puff on one 2 days ago & it didn't deliver so there's no point smoking :-(

I find im dehydrated and missed the morning smoke with coffee so I've given up the morning coffee too!

Try a cup of hot/warm water, sounds boring but you'll feel ten times better than hen you did when you woke up!
