You are worth it

Hi. I’m just over nine years quit and still have a great sense of achievement when I consider how I managed to beat the dreaded Nick o Teen. Thank you again icanquit as you helped to make this journey so much easier although the road wasn’t at all easy.
Having tried so many times with various methods I finally went cold Turkey. This was after 53 years of smoking 30 plus cigarettes a day on average. I took a selfie of me smoking my last cigarette and gritted my teeth. For a month or so I drank really strong black sweet coffee which really helped with the withdrawals and made good quit buddies here. After a couple of months I knew I had finally quit and eventually had my first day without thinking about a cigarette. Good luck to all quitters you know you are worth it.

Hi Dobbin. Just came to see if you had posted. I knew you would. I am still 100 days ahead of you. I know that won't change. Hope it is reassuring for others on this site. Don't think we could have done it so successfully without this platform. A/c this site I have saved over $129000. That's a lot of ash saved from the ashtray. Best wishes always.

Another great post Dobbin. It is so wonderful to hear from both you and Lia and have you instill confidence in others. IcanQuit is indeed a terrific platform for others seeking success and it nice to see others that we got to know on our journeys.
Keep on enjoying your new life, freedom, health and money saved!

Hi Lia. Great to hear from you and that you are still 100 days ahead of me. All those years ago seem like yesterday and like you I have saved thousands since I quit. Take care
Great to hear from you again happiness. Thanks for your reply and I’m sure you are benefitted from being smoke free

That’s an amazing achievement! My friend had a similar experience—quitting after decades of smoking. He also went cold turkey, and though it was tough at first, the support made a huge difference. One thing he did a few months into his quit was get a lung scan. It helped him see how much his lungs were healing and gave him peace of mind. You might want to consider it, especially after such a long time smoking. It’s a great way to track your progress and make sure everything’s on the right path!

Hi Janice. I did have thorough check ups once quit and thankfully the damage was very little. My spirometer tests were quite a surprise as the technician said the results were almost compatible with a male smoker my age who had never smoked. This was after a few years quit. I believe that as a Construction manager walking most of the day benefited my lungs. Thanks for the reply and trust all goes well.

Hi Dobbin, that's really great to hear! It’s amazing how your active lifestyle as a construction manager has helped your recovery, and it’s wonderful that your spirometer tests showed such positive results.
