Hi Shazza. I guess my surmise about some doctors, pharmacies, and Nrt manufacturers was correct..they give them to you without any information or very little in fine print. The fact is any Nrt is proven more effective and advise you to get psychological help. That is why you are here. So welcome and I hope you will share your experience with us along your journey.

Nrt (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) do contain nicotine, whereas Champix does not. To answer your concern, most people take Champix for about 10 days before they go off cigarettes. Champix attaches to nicotine receptors in the brain and makes smoking less enjoyable. This will kick in gradually. Meanwhile you have to do your part.

Read and learn about you and nicotine. Learn the 4 D's. When you now have a cigarette, think about and write down where, when and why. Step two is to change these patterns in preparation of living without the cigarette. This seems to be the hardest (80% of the Journey). Taste the poison, resent the time taking to smoke it, think about what it has cost in money and health. Envision yourself as a non-smoker with freedom from nicotine. Embrace that vision. That is your job. Champix nor any Nrt can do that for you. Once you truly want that, you will stop cravings cigarettes and become a happy non--smoker.

You can do this Shazza89. If you believe you can , you will. Simple.

Since you are starting out and still smoking , you may want to take a look at my post "If You've Given Up,Givin Up. Try This!." Use it as an outline to cut down until the Champix kicks in. I hope it may help you in some ways.

Champix also has side effects that you should google and be aware of. It is used by many and i do hope it works for you.

Another tip for you is that when you quit nicotine, cut down on caffeine which nicotine used to negate the effect of. (cut by half) Drink lots of water to flush your system and eat meals (breakfast) to keep blood sugar levels.

I am sure you will learn plenty more as you read and learn.

Mindset is Key. Knowledge is Power!

The first thing I do when I awake is have that smoke.. 2nd thing is my coffee then another smoke half way through coffee haha I am a very heavy smoker usually every 15 mins to half hour I am smoking 😏 on my first day of champix I started making myself have a smoke every hour I'm on day 3 now and still smoking every hour that's progress right? I have tried stretching it out to every 2 hours but that gets hard

That is why you are on Champix to help cut down naturally. Let it do its work while you change the habits. Do not smoke with coffee, get up and go out to have a smoke and do nothing else. Awareness of when and why you smoke help in quitting. Cutting down and using the 4D;s and other methods of distraction are all great to practice. Like i say, psychological change is the hardest, and what you focus on, especially right now. You are doing great. Think positive and change habits.

I’m on day 12 of Champix and have noticed today when I would normally have a smoke I couldn’t be bothered with it so give it time I haven’t had as many today as I normally would. I do however feel really really tired. I’ve come to realise today smoking is not a habit it’s an addiction. Good luck with your journey.

Hi Shazza89, I've used Champix before and it does take a week or so for you to want to stop smoking. Stick with it! You will probably start to feel nauseous as well, but before you know it you won't feel like smoking. I did well on Champix for approx 2 months, then stopped taking them (earlier than I should've) so started smoking again! Ugh!

Trying patches this time. On day 3 and struggling :(
