SMOKING CESSATION

An easy to understand site to get you started on your journey. https://health.usnews.com/health-conditions/allergy-asthma-respiratory/smoking-cessation/overview#14
It starts off with some pretty bleak numbers, but i have read studies that say if you are sufficiently motivated and over 45 you have a very good chance of succeeding. Anyone can, but face it, you have to WANT to quit smoking. Then there is the realization that you will become a non-smoker, and the psychological aspect of dealing with that thought. The numbers are if you are not in a cessation program, which i would think this site would and should be classed as one. IcanQuit provides a great group of people who are here for you in your trying times, or if you need advice and support. I certainly hope they are not trying to say that cold turkey is doomed to failure because that is certainly not the case.(I will say here that Smart Turkey or the educated version on cold turkey is the way to go because knowledge is power.) That is my advice, but of course you will decide for yourself.
In defense of Smart Turkey, which has no funding because there is no advertising because there is nothing to sell..... and government is the tail wagged by the big dogs, the NRT and Tobacco companies. Think about it.

Please don't get into this conspiracy garbage. Cold turkey is one of the methods advocated on this site, paid for by the Government.

You are correct John, and this site is very much better than the one run in Canada. It is painfully slow, less communication between people, as in no e-mails to contact. I also got censored alot for some of my views. Few dollars put in for such a worthwhile cause by the government. I guess i was trying to encourage some newcomers to consider what i believe to be the easiest method and that companies with something to gain, slant statistics. I believe you have just as much of chance by using Smart Turkey method and using a great on-line like iCanQuit. The point also being that statistically cold turkey alone is a 95% failure rate by reading the article that i posted trying to help other in their quit.
A friend was telling me today how he quit quite successfully on Champix the second time around. The second time he did it for 2 prescriptions to make sure. He felt he came off it too early the first time around. Since it is not nicotine based, he said he had no withdrawal coming on it then. He had no support other than his wife as he kept it secret. No quit group. Had he joined one the first time around, i would like to think it would have been successful. I think we all know you have to WANT and believe you can overcome the odds. (Depending on how you translate the article i linked to,
I am being more than open minded and fair in telling you all these findings that are not necessarily in line with my way of thinking. But as I am already a very Happy Non-Smoker none of it really matters to me anymore. I am just doing my best to encourage and support.
I am still hoping some will post their successful quits on my page as a compilation for the newcombers, or please post your own.
I will always encourage Smart Turkey which is different than just jump in cold turkey and do it with willpower. You all know that Mindset is the biggest factor. I still do not believe in feeding nicotine with NRT. I am open minded, please lets hear those great stories.

Hi Happiness,
I support your right to advocate for Smart Turkey/Cold Turkey. Many people agree with you this is possibly the best method to use to quit. I just had a problem with the idea that some how the Gov was controlled by the big drug companies, I know all companies be it drug companies, firearms or even soft drink companies pay lobbyists to push their cause. So do all the pressure groups who are anti smoking, guns and fat food. When this works its called democracy even with its faults.

Point taken John, but so many sites trash cold turkey , and i guess if no plan is cold turkey then yes i would have to agree. But I have never advocated cold turkey without learning and using the tools. Doing so, and being on a site like this as well improves its successes significantly. I have read complicated research that shows higher cold turkey successes than any other method. To each his own and all the best!
