Is this normal?

Today is day 18. After smoking 50 years I have quit using only Nictoine Lozenges. I am doing well but am so depressed and have alot of anxiety. Is this normal? How long until it passes?

Hi Jane hang in there and use any help available to you. I found patches also helped. I was a 55 year smoker 6 years ago, and you have done the hard yards stick with it. The patches may have only been a crutch but use any help available. You can do it. You are so close. I probably found this site equally helpful when I started to wobble. Keep us posted.

Thankyou for your comments. They did help me understand why I am feeling so down. I just did not expect to feel so blue. I suppose that is part of Nictotine withdrawl. I need to keep busy
Yes this appears to be normal I was surprised how sad and depressed I was feeling starting around week 2 and increasing through week 3 . Think it’s peaked and getting slowly a little better

Hi jane, Well done. I am now 94 days quit after 46 years and I too suffered greatly with the depressed feelings and anxiety. My blood pressure went up enough for me to visit the doctor to check it. I felt really crook and thought I better resume the fags however, I stayed off them. It will ease and how long is different for everyone I presume. I analysed it and I actually think I went through a grieving period because my (so called mate) body was missing the fags. I tell myself that all this stuff is what I am supposed to be enduring according to all the reports and just try and soldier on. Stay Strong strong

Thank you for your comment. Today is day 59 and still feeling depressed and blue with anxiety. I have tried to stay active to keep me mind off myself but every morning when I wake up the depression is still there. Have been to my doctor a few times but she has not prescribed anything. Also have seen a counsellor will little help either. Im wondering if the depression was pre-existing and quitting smoking just brought it out more. But don''t remember feeling like this before quitting smoking

Hi Jane
I’ve joined today. Hope you’re OK. I’ve had severe depression, and it’s really important to talk to someone. Find another doctor and do the questionnaire, its important to know what’s going on. The brain is an amazing thing but if you’re depressed it spins you out of control. In the meantime try the Headspace app, 5-10 mins a day xxx

I am still hanging in. See the doctor next Friday and this time I'm going to insist on some medication for anxiety, jitters and depression as I can't control it myself or a referral to a psychiatrist. Today is day 63 and it feels like nicotine withdrawl but should be past by now.

Hi Jane you will get through this ! I am currently still smoking the first time I quit wasn't nice but then I found support from juices in the blender it was a loud one haha and I used spinach kail and Apple orange mainly to boost what I needed to power on I took it too far that's the tricky part but one juice before a early morning walk helped me feel good but I had patches n was using vape and we all require different aids and fruit juices made are great! The orange assists with cravings and so look into it x

I have been to my doctor last week and start on a antidepressant for the depression, anxiety and jitters. I'm not doing the best. ? Mental illness or nictotine withdrawl, or a combination of both. No improvement since starting the antidepressant but its been only been 4 days. Its been 76 days since quitting. Can't wait to feel normal again
