Never a pack a day smoker

I'm now 11 days into a quit attempt and managed not to smoke at all which is amazing for me. What surprises me is i never smoked a pack a day but got so addicted. What's good though is i'm having alot less cravings for cigarettes so i think i'm progressing really well. I felt terrible for about 8 days and have seem to come through on the other side pretty well. I haven't been able though to stop my NRT i tried a few days without any gum, lozengers and inhaler but have since stopped the patches as they only do a little bit. My doctor said in about a week he wants to move me onto the step 2 (14mg) patch which i feel is great progress. I enjoy reading all the stories on here. What i struggle with though still is when someone else smokes but at least i don't smell like that as you can't really even smell it on my clothes anymore. It just goes to show you how addictive nicotine can be even if youve never been a pack a day smoker. For me i'd mostly only smoke a 20 pack over about 5 days but other times it's been a 35 pack over about 10 days.

Congrats Webbquit, you are going strong keep it up. Today is 105 days for me, what helped me is going on to websites that promote non smoking. Also I used to and still do watch people who smoke, I take in how deep they inhale before releasing, I take in how frequent they take in one puff after the other, I take in how at peace they are when smoking and imagine the turmoil it would be for them if they didn't have a smoke then and there. All this I watch especially while driving to and from work. I am so glad when the ladies at work tell me I am smelling so nice... opposed to before my lovely perfume was spoilt somewhat with the smell of nicotine. Maybe these tips will help you more in your venture to stay smoke free, and in a month from now you will be well on your way to being a permanent non smoker. Good luck

Hi Webbquit. I posted a message for you under "Getting the Most out of your NRT" . I also posted a favourite story of mine there as well. It may do you some good to read.
Believe you can become a non-smoker and you can!

Did I understand you to say that you only ever smoked 3 or 4 cigarettes a day?
I have to wonder if you have been using the gums and lozenges as directed.
You were on the patch under medical supervision, and taking other gums, and lozenges, etc....?
I am wondering if you are not quitting but increasing your nicotine intake.
Please take the time to re-evaluate your quit. I may be totally incorrect, forgive me. You have been on NRT for such a long time now, and on this site and learning about nicotine. I hope you practice some which apply to you.
Best of Luck... no not luck... determination and belief! You can be smoke-free and Nicotine free. It is time to make your escape plan. You can do it!
