Hi. Im just starting my new quit journey. Previously i’ve quit using patches but would always have constant thoughts about smoking. I mean all day everyday they never went away. Please tell me your tips on getting them off my mind for good. And how long it takes to stop daydreaming about sitting outside puffing away!!

Hi mish, it’s day 25 for me and I am on the journey with you. I dream about it sometimes too but here is what I use:

1. A few deep breaths and just enjoy the clear flow of air through your body;

2. I think about why I quit in the first place and how hard the first few days was..

3. I have also told too many people that I quit...so if I picked it up again, it would be quite embarrassing and bit bruising on the ego... #pride

Have you tried using more than 1 patch? I used 2 patches for the first few weeks and worked for me ,over 80days smoke free now 🙂Check with your Dr before you wear more than 1 but definitely worth a try. Good luck 🙂

Hi Mish, I gave up alcohol some years ago for 2.5 years and it was pretty hard going especially the first 3-6 months. I think if one has a long standing addiction, you have to do all you can just to make it through each day. I found keeping busy. So with the ciggies, I am doing gym, tennis and movies once a week, shower at night, preparing healthy food, lots of reading and may go back to my chinese herbal person. I might try counselling or do hypnotherapy again for smoking. I think you've got to through everything you can at it and be determined not to smoke today under ANY circumstances. Hey, my aunt is very very sick from years of smoking..she's dying and she has to have all her teeth out if they can stop chemo. Another friend in late 60's has throat cancer and he is still smoking and getting more teeth removed. It's insane. We just have to get over it and be determined to look after ourselves, cravings or no cravings. It will get easier. Promise.
