Firstly congrats on those couple of days - such an achievement. I am on day 4 but haven't gone a full day without one smoke yet but getting there. After meals - especially dinner, is sooooo tough. I have started taking my dog for an extra walk around the block and bonus is the others do the washing up whilst u r away - If no dog, just take yourself for a quick sLk amyway - Good luck

Hi Jade, I am on day 17 and found after meals tough , for me, I would finishing eating, get up from the table and drink a big glass of water and chew a nicotine gum. I would then do something like start the dishes, feed my animals ,fold washing anything that would distract me for 10mins.

I found this really helped and now I don't automatically think about a smoke after I eat or have to chew gum.

I found leaving the table sorta distracted the craving, the longer I sat all I wanted to do and think about was a smoke 🙄

I kept telling myself ' move it to loss it' move from where you are when the craving hits and it does help to loss that craving , hope that makes sense and helps 😊Good luck,it's tough but does get easier 🙂

I do the dishes. I could read a book. You could watch TV. Keep up the self-talk. I self-talk. Every day I want to buy a packet of smokes. But it's just a thought. I don't have to action it. I tell myself "I DON'T SMOKE". Posative affirmations change the pathways in the brain. you will feel happier and more content. I practice smiling as a meditation. People thank me for smiling.

Hi Jade, congratulations on your decision to quit. When I first quit, my partner(who quit 10 years ago) told me to do everything the same as before, just don't smoke. So when I got home from work, the first thing I used to do was go outside and sit on my deck and light up. So every afternoon, I sat on my deck and instead of lighting up, I had some snacks, chips, popcorn, things I enjoyed. After dinner, the same thing, I went outside, sat on my deck, and enjoyed a glass of wine but didn't light up. It wasn't easy and I had to count back from 100 sometimes when the cravings hit. I even cried a few times because I felt miserable. For me, the trick was not to avoid the situations and triggers where I would normally smoke, but to face up to them and say, I can do this without smoking.

The first week or so was incredibly difficult but it got easier and I am at Day 71 today. Make sure that you keep coming back to this site and read all the stories. I truly believe that is one reason that I got through the first few rough weeks - being encouraged by all the other quitters. Good luck. You can do this!
