Cold Turkey

According to research smokers going cold turkey are more likely to cheat or relapse on their quit smoking plan than those who use nicotine replacement therapy. The urge to have a puff or two, or even to smoke an entire cigarette is easy to give into. Addiction is addiction, however. Introducing any amount of nicotine back into the system immediately ramps up the addiction. Relapsing immediately places the quitter back at square one in the withdrawal process. Nicotine addiction easily convinces the brain to utilize every rationalisation as to why ‘just one’ could or should be had. Having rebuttals on hand can help quell the urge to relapse. And with a 4% - 6% success rate, everyone must be aware it is not an easy road. At close to 800+ days, I know how lonely it can be and how little support one may get when it could be so easy to cave in to a craving. I went cold turkey and because of my personality that was the only way to beat the addiction. It was either quit everything or risk gong backwards and taking up where I left off. 800+ days is such a thrill for me. Glad the prophesy to revert to smoking has not bothered me...

I have struggled with addiction my whole adult life. I know the struggle that it takes to give up something that your body and mind have convinced you that they feel good. When in all reality. All it does is make the body break down faster. Keep up the good fight . I hope to look back and be at that number one day with no relapses. I know that its possible as I am at 5 years and 9 months clean from doing drugs, I never thought I would escape. Anything is possible when you really want it and you put your mind to it. You just have to be tired of being tired.

Well I tried everything about on the market. Champix, patches, E-cigs etc. Nothing worked. I did cold turkey and most people i know say i am one of the lucky ones. But it was fairly easy to quit as my mindset was right. And i will now never smoke again. I root for cold turkey. The other stuff just prolongs the suffering.

Well done Lia. 800+ is something to be proud of. I've reached 777 and used nicotine lozenges. They worked. It was so hard getting rid of the habit that I have no intentions of falling off the wagon now. I always need to be aware of temptation.

Well done Lia. You have been so determined and so strong. I agree that cold turkey is the only wat to go. If I had one that would be it. It doesn't mean that I don't miss it. I still do. It's just that it gets easier as time goes on.
