I found icanquit after a few months quit as I was struggling and feeling alone with the journey.

I have had 405 days away from smoking and looking back there were posters here who really gave that much needed support.

It's strange as I do not know these posters but look forward to seeing their icons and fictitious names and the bond that has grown as fellow quitters.

There are those that appear to have started strong but fallen by the wayside. Not knowing them we can only guess what circumstances led them to stop posting.

I am 68 years of age and decided to quit after 53 years smoking. I was talking to our eldest son yesterday and some of his friends refuse to believe I have quit.

I am still so astounded that O no longer smoke and rarely think about it. The cravings have totally gone but there is the occasional thought about once a month that I fancy one. This is easily dealt with.

Looking back I realise that continuos posting here and reading others posts has been so invaluable.

There is a reality here that I had not found elsewhere. I believe a culture has developed on icanquit and from that perspective those that have had success are invaluable when they continue posting.

Lia made a request recently for "old timers " to revisit here. They did and it has been really rewarding. Thanks.

Tip. Keep posting. Keep reading.

Hi Dobbin. You truly understand where I am coming from. You said it when you mentioned the need to see posts from fellow quitters who started out the journey with those regular names. How I welcomed and enjoyed their posts. Some, disappeared. Sad that some never returned ... Did they succeed and no longer need the safety net of this site? I don't think so. After 504 days, I still need to air & vent and to get reassurance that I can continue. Nothing like reassurance from the pack... Just hope anyone out there who owes their quit recovery journey to to this site will return once every now and then to remind us it is a long road and possible nevertheless.

Hi Dobbin,

I thank you for your posts and I thank the "old timers" for dropping in every now and then too.

At day 50 I still consider myself a newbie and I will for some time yet. So I love reading your posts as it reassures me this quit is REAL and POSSIBLE.

You wrote: "It's strange as I do not know these posters but look forward to seeing their icons and fictitious names and the bond that has grown as fellow quitters." I smiled when I read this. This is exactly how I feel. I was telling my partner who still smokes about our online community. I even tell him about some of the people on here and their journeys. I feel like I belong here and can learn from you and teach others following me.

All my friends, family, colleagues smoke. I am completely alone in my quit journey external to this site. But I come here and read your stories and share mine and I'm not so alone anymore - for this I truly thank each and every one of you. There is definitely a bond here...

Hi Crasher. Thanks for your post. Well done on your 50 days and we are all aware what a fantastic achievement that is and how difficult.

I am lucky inasmuch as my wife gave up smoking ten years ago and being retired I don't come into contact with too many smokers.

Went to a wedding reception though on Saturday and there were half a dozen smokers standing by the entrance door. I found this disturbing and a bit ridiculous as the greeted us with various amounts of smoke filled expelled breath.

Again well done and thanks for your encouraging comments
