Some smokers, weight gain and sugar

Some of you will know me here. I'm now on day 80 nicotine free. In the first 6 weeks of quitting I started putting on a lot of weight. Now its really coming back to normal and I'd like to share why I think so. This is just my experience so it may not be everyone elses. I am writing this for the benefit of those who want to know one man's story.
As a heavy smoker I always needed my sugar, especially in drinks whether they are soft drinks, cordials or energy drinks. Gulping down sugar drinks gave an effect like smoking nicotine to the brain as I could get instant satisfaction (sugar rush to the head) I could not drink plain water. I've not really practiced drinking plain water for most of my life. I am beginning to be convinced that the heavy smoking somehow made pure water uninteresting, so sugar in drinks perked me up and gave me the head rush I needed to counteract the screwed up sugar thirst feelings that cigarettes were giving me . I've always wondered why I could never control my weight but now its not a mystery. I can only speak for myself but I am now beginning to see how nicotine is harmful to people like me in so many ways I'd never of known unless I gave up nicotine in all its forms. I'm practicing to drink water and sugarless drinks every day and can see that something is really working
I don't think that I could make myself drink sugarless drinks and water if I was back to heavy smoking. Its almost like my body is now readjusting and telling me I don't need sugar water as a pain killer to ease the heavy smoking effects.

funny hey I went the other way I been a water drinker all my life, quit smoking went all coked up.
I had gone yes without a sugar drink quit and bam.
I know why and like you after 50 odd days some free its time to go back to my water only drinking.
but well done and yes water is the best stuff :)

Hi manchild, sugar drinks are very popular culprits leading the obesity epidemic. I drink coffee and wine to make my cigarettes taste palatable.
A drink of water with a cigarette tastes like, well it tastes like crap!

That it so true for me too weewillem. Always have to have a coffee or pop in hand when I smoke...never water.
