86 days and further away from cigarettes

Over the last few days I've had to spend time with smokers. This means that their passive smoke is all around me. Funnily it seems to bother me less now and I don't know why. I know that we are all different but honestly I am not really having any cravings for cigarettes. Well, that previous statement could be misleading because I think that I am beginning to see my brain is telling me I need something but cigarettes are no longer the option. Over the last week I've sucked on a few sweets, had a coffee now and again or some exotic tea. Oh I forgot, I am also drinking water. I'm still delighted to tell people that I've given up smoking because I still think its absolutely amazing! Who me? Yeh me! Who would ever think that I would give up smoking? Well it happened to me and now I have faith it can happen to you!

That is awesome, well done. I feel exactly the same at the moment. When in company of smokers, tho i dont feel like or crave a ciggy I feel im missing something, so I chew gum (if im not drinking coffee or similar) or suck on a mint. This is the only thing that truly reminds me that I am an ex smoker. Yay to both of us!

Isn't it a good feeling when the nicotine is no longer such a big part of our daily existence. And then we fill the void with so much more rewarding things... Power to you, manchild...

Yes manchild, you said it. We all draw strength from each other. It's the words we utter and the hope and expectations we have of others on this site. We give so much of ourselves when we take the time to encourage others and to share our trials and tribulations. Nobody other than those on this site have ensured my success to date. Nearly 365 days of encouragement and over $7550 saved can be attributed to the very caring individuals on this site.

Well said, Lia. I read the comments on this side instead of lighting up every morning. It was the replacement I needed. Reading others messages and thoughts were exactly the thing that got me through those first few days. Whenever I paused in the day thinking it was time for a smoke, I would just open this site up and there you all were. It's so reassuring to know that we've all been through it and are making our own way in our own time and with people who understand.

Well done manchild. Your out of town on the highway. Great effort. I identify with the smokers environment but feel sorry for them hanging around outside looking lost. For a long time I looked for a substitute but gradually have forgotten about it. Thanks for sharing. Dobbin

Thank you manchild for all your posts I enjoy reading your stories.

You are right we are all different, I live with a smokers and the smell of smoke has never bothered me.

I have to think that the reason it doesn't bother me has to do more with my frame of mind than anything else. I think this time I was ready to be smoke free, however I don't think I will ever consider myself a ex smoker, I think rather that I am a smoker who is smoke free, a bit like an alcoholic who is sober.

I don't know if this makes sense to anyone else but it works for me. Good luck to us all

That's awesome well done! I'm at the end of day 6 and I've hardly left the house. I don't want to see anyone or go anywhere, everyone around me smokes and I know this early in the piece that I will be tempted and more than likely cave in.. I've explained myself to my friends and family and they totally understand and after reading your post gives me hope that I will be able to spend time with friends and family again and it won't be in a years time cause at the moment that's how I feel.
