Six of one / Half-dozen of the other

I smoked my last Cigarette 3 years, 5 months, and two weeks ago. A trick I learned very early on in my quit process helps me beat the cravings. That trick is to remember that the cravings I used to get rid of by lighting-up will go away whether I light-up or not. Those cravings do not last one bit longer by waiting them out than they do by lighting-up. So, the only difference is that if I wait them out rather than lighting-up, I have put that much more time between my last cigarette and now. I have given myself a bit more time to learn that the more time between quitting and now means less frequent and milder cravings. Force yourself to focus on those facts when the withdrawal symptoms begin. Remind yourself that the craving will stop whether you light-up or not. Since it is six of one or a half-dozen of the other you will be far better off waiting it out than lighting-up. The reward is better health, more money, and a return of self-respect and personal control of your life. YOU CAN DO THIS!

Wow, that's a really good way of looking at it, definitely makes sense. I will try applying this every time I get a craving which is still too often. Have been 92 days smoke free now and still have very strong cravings. Thanks for this tip and congratz on your quit..cheers!

That sounds right. The more you resist the temptation to smoke by saying no & taking the right action the closer you are to quitting.

I believe it's phycologal ! More u think about a smoke ! If not in the cuboard ? U want more and anxiety sets in big time! Etc . So I haven't given up but cut down! I in fact are making myself more aware even my breathing! Do I realy need one ? Or if I have coffee it's automatic u want one ? Will you drink the coffee or tea or after a meal ! Aware also how much money goes in the budget to bye them? I turned to Rollie's so I have to roll one! 9 times out of10 ? Can't be bothered rolling one ! 8 a day plus I don't take it down ! So I'm preparing my thinking to go cold turkey bye not noticing and relianing on the habit! I hate the thought im letting it control me! It stinks crubby and filthy when u empty a ashtray ! So I've st a day in ten days ! Hoping it drifts away from my mind! I have started a gym so I won't have one on my way there? Or when I finish my workout! Just to delay as much as I can! Hope it works for me as people look in discust and I feel embarrised! So I don't smoke in the street either! Hard if I have a beer so I don't have a beer cause they go together ha hard life ️️aye but waist of money and lost my sister 4 months ago watched her die and hard to breath as she got acute leukemia hasn't smoked for thirty years ! 58 her breathing was so bad and sad and left two young girls still at uni ! So I'm trying now as breathing is Mager ! 😇🙏
