That's it! I'm done!

Stumbled onto the effects of nicotine website last night and decided that Nicotine had enough control over my life! I'm so sick of always having to worry where can I smoke when I'm outstation. And all the second hand smoke my partner is breathing in. Wish me luck as today is the first day of my many days of smoke free life. I've been smoking for 20 years and I really hope I'm strong enough to beat it.

Hi Mushroom,
You are dead right, you do not need them. I was in complete denial about smoking until I quit. I did not realize how selfish I was. The smell, and the suffocation, on others. I now find it uncomfortable to be around smokers, I am gone anti smoking. You can beat it if you want to beat it. All you have to do is say no, every time it nags you, just say no. You will have difficult times, or you may not, just be determined and you will succeed. what method are you using? Good luck with it.

Thanks for all the supports. I went cold turkey. Second day, really hard, the carving. I still carry a pack of ciggy in my bag to remind myself that I can lit up any time I want and it's my choice. It seems to be working for me.

i would get rid of the cigarettes, don't make it easy to slip up well all the best.

Hey mushroom, I agree with stoprightnow. Ditch them. If you have a craving you feel you can't beat, by the time you get to a shop to buy smokes the craving will be over. If you've got smokes handy you can't buy yourself time, they'll just be there. In the early days I just hung on to the thought if I can't get through this craving then the worst that will happen is I'll cave and buy smokes. I haven't caved, and it's nearly six months. All the best, stay strong.

Hey Mushroom,
I would get rid of the smokes fairly soon. I hung on to mine for a week and then threw them away. When it is over it's over. You have got to be strict with yourself in the early days. I wish you the best of luck .
