Break-up

Have you ever been in a relationship? I'm sure you have. I was in a Smoking relationship. I was talking with my ex-wife lastnight about a break-up she's going through and how she feels about it. And it made me think that smoking is kinda like a relationship. When you give up smoking, you are giving up a part of yourself that has been with you for several months or years. In my case at least 15 years. You do everything together. It's there for you every step of the way and no matter how your feeling. Its comfort. It's that hand holding yours. That last kiss before you go to bed. It's going to be there for you..........
You give, give, and give in this relationship. Your heart, your lungs, your body, Your Mind, Your Money, Your time. I could go on....
Ask yourself this. What do you get Back? What do You get back when you quit?
I havn't smoked for 7 days. The temptation has been there and the cravings but I went through them. One minute, One Hour, and One day at a time with God's Help and Prayer. I have said good-bye to smoking and hello to fresh-air.

you get your health back, i do not miss not smoking and i smoked twice as long as you have and have been smoke-free for 143 days, well all the best.

Hi eblawson,
Very true words, smoking addiction is more than a habit, there is a psychological element to it. A dependency that goes on for longer than it ever should. Well done on a week smoke free, good for you. I wish you every success in the future.

Hi Eblawson
Very true analogy - I feel the same, my one and only ex-true friend and lover. I've smoke for 30+ years and is 164 days smoke free. I do cardio better than a lot of "young" people, I can smell and taste...I whole new world opened up - its a beautiful journey with new experiences. I've picked up weight but is slowly but surely losing it, small price to pay for being healthier and most definitely happier that I don't "stink: anymore. I can honestly say I am sorry that I didn't stop years ago!!
Hang in there - it does get better. Its not an easy road but one that can be done!!
Good Luck and do try and not "fold" over the silly season.
Hi EB, You are right in what you say . I had smoked for 35 years. Had a major operation, gave up the same day as op. That was 13 months ago.Part of the recuperation was exercise .I would've been lucky to walk 1km back then. I have lost 17 kilos , I walk over an hour everyday even in the dark,Wife couldn't handle it , lost her on the journey after 31 years but life is good . I bounce out of bed at 5.30 everyday and take on life . Keep up the good work .Life is short enough . Why make it shorter
