Advice - first night out since giving up!

Its my birthday drinks next weekend and i am worried i might fall off the wagon ...
I have had a few drinks with people who have smoked and it hasn't worried me ... BUT, i wasn't intoxicated like i am likely to be next weekend.
I will be day 55 by then. Any tips? I am think dance the whole night - better to have sore feet then a sore throat the next morning!

Hi,
I gave up about 10 years ago for nearly 3 months and hadn't been out. The moment I went out I had one and started again. It's funny I seriously thought I would be okay as I had no desire to smoke any more.
I have been trying to give up since then off and on, mostly off.
Anyway all I can say is tell everybody before you have a drink you really don't want a cigarette and to please not give you one, and the obvious try not to get too intoxicated lol.
My downfall was my friends were quite happy to give me one. Still my choice.
Just be very careful as 55 days is an awesome achievement.
Well done to you. good luck and Happy Birthday! :)

Seriously dont worry about it. gave up 6 mths ago and am doing fine..I have had an odd one tho when Ive had a drink. but have been a little worst for ware and didnt remember it straight away when I woke then when I did it didnt kinda matter coz I wasnt sure it had happened..if any of that makes sense ?? Just have a good night and enjoy yourself...even if you have one it wont get you hooked again and you prob wont remember having it anyway..well I didnt LOL

Happy Birthday! You will be giving yourself the best birthday present ever, health. I think if you are already concerned about having a few (too many) drinks, you have already mentally prepared yourself for temptation and the ability to resist it. Be strong, enjoy your special night, and wake up proudly (if a bit hung over) the next day to day 56!!!

I've done abstinence from alcohol while quitting before and it just made me miss drinking as well as smoking. This time on Champix I have been able to drink (and have some big nights) AND stay quit.I like a drink, I just needed alcohol and cigarettes to get a divorce. You can drink sensibly, but you can never smoke sensibly.

I thought the hardest thing about quiting was the whole stigma around "drinking". I had a wine tonight (three days in) and smoking didn't even cross my mind! I'm on zyban so pretty sure it's totally working!

And trust me when I say, I liked nothing more then having a smoke with my wine!

Hi Mgaheater. you will be fine, and you seem prepared also for it. Just enjoy your birthday. Most people that quit have the same fear too , I did but was grand in fact I did not think of it. The smoking ban makes it far easier too.
