Hello there all just in case any one is interested i was reading in the herald sun yesterday about the weight people put on when they give up smoking even if there eating habits have not changed since quitting,it has something to do with the bacteria in the intestines they say that most people put 3 - 4 kilos on in the first year of quitting. I thought it was intersting as i feel i have had toilet trouble since quitting and feeling very bloated has any one else experienced this??????

yeah smoking does keep you regular and now you have stopped you are not so regular it happens to alot of people just keep your fibre intake up or take some form of laxative well all the best.

Hey sconie, my tummy's doing interesting things too! Bloating, constipation. I think you have to gain some weight if you still eat the same though, your basic metabolic rate returns to normal. As a smoker my heart rate was way up, palpitations were quite scary, now much more normal. Any weight gain has to be better than smoking, I hope!

yeah I have experienced it. The metabolism has slowed down, bloating constipated. It is normal to gain weight it is all part of it, annoying but it encourages exercise. I think it all balances off after the first three months are where you gain the most , and then it levelling off for the year. everyone is different though. I have gained two stone, I was out from running for over a month due to an injury, so that did not help matters. But I am back again. I am smoke free , that is the main thing , things can only get better now. Keep up the good work , and keep posting.
