The Governemnt is making smoking harder, they say they are taxing cigarettes so people will give up - This to me is so wrong, as when people do give up where will the money come from

To say smokers cost a lot in health is correct BUT not as much as the alcohol fuelled violence we see every week

The cancer Council uses it's 'scare tatics' for people to give up

To me it's about the money COST as much as about the anti social feeling others give me, It's bloody hard I feel agitated, cranky, scared etc.

Cheers

More to come

do some research first, this was carried out in 2004 to 2005 so the stats would be more 4164 males and 1892 females died of lung cancer i don't think there are any scare tactics so if you want to stop smoking just don't put another one in your mouth, well all the best.

I believe the smoking advertising is great in preventing our children from starting this discusting habit. As someone who struggled with the cost of my habit I actually believe this can help in reducing our new generations smoking. When I started at age15. One packet cost $2.00 too easy!

You're totally right Bonny!! smoking does not provoke antisocial behaviour as alcohol!! and does not damage your brain!!!

Hi Bonny, I have to agree with you too. Massive (and I mean, relative to other nations - massive) taxes on cigarettes are imposed whenever an inefficient government has a shortfall - and it's never questioned because smokers are painted as bad people who deserve to be ripped off. I resent the fact that the government capitalises on this bad image to bankroll its mistakes. New 'smoking licences' now (which will no doubt incur a fee to own and renew) and bans in public places are further humiliations. My issue is this - smokers are not bad human beings. We are addicts. Bullying, humiliation and ripping off are not acceptable tactics for anti-smokers to employ. Yes, I am no longer a smoker, but I feel lucky - it was and still is hard work. I always felt the government should put its money where its mouth is and just ban smoking outright rather than sell citizens an addictive drug over the counter, then rob them blind and humiliate them at whim.

Yes please do ban smoking outright, if they did that what else would they tax? I bet all those non smokers who complain about us would want us all smoking again, that's for sure.
