4 days in

4 days in, using the gum. Grieving my long lost friend the ciggie in the last 24 hours. My friend who has been with me for the last 27 years through every up and down. Funnily enough I have had a lung function test 2 months ago and I have the lungs of a non-smoker. Dr was as surprised as myself at hearing this. The only reason for giving up, as at 43 my mortality is in my face constantly. Damn getting older as in my 20's and 30's I didn't think about it. If they came up with a cure for every illness related to smoking tomorrow, I would be down the supermarket buying my tobacco quicker than you can say nicotine.

Hey, Msnicotine, good for you, yes I get the missing feeling , it is not too bad now, but it comes and goes. I am six weeks smoke free, and I still get days where I am emotional and finding it hard. But then a friend comes into the house smoking and I nearly choke.... smells horrible, and I am glad I am not a smoker. It is the emotional attachment , cigarette smoking is psychological it takes a an adjustment to break the thinking , rewiring. You believe you need it , but you do not. Eric has a good point , a friend who can kill you. Good luck with the rest of your journey .

Hi Msnicotine,
Im sure your lungs are not healthy lungs, I guess your lucky in the sense at that time, Your lungs showed no long term smoking related damage, that doesnt mean that if even if you stop smoking now, Your lungs are going to develop a cancerous growth later on ( fingers crossed they done ) but really we are all playing russian roulette with our health as the majority of us on this site have been long term smokers. Good luck on your journey and with your health

hang in there things do get better find a new hobby go for a walk just remember why you quit in the first place. everyone is different and will go through different things. an you don't need a friend that in the end will kill you.

Everyone seems quite serious on this site about smoking. Smoking was my friend that Yes it can kill. So can getting into my car everyday and driving. So can eating too much and becoming obese. Everyone on here obviously has loved smoking as much as I did but yet as soon as they give up they turn into anti-smoking fanatics. Giving up smoking is not hard, as it is mind over matter (as I gave up smoking whilst pregnant with all my four children) but due to loving it took it back up again. As Gammy stated we are playing russian roulette with our health and this is the only reason for me giving up. I want to try and make my journey at least a little bit of fun and find the humorous side of it all.
