100 Days - My experience.

Posted in Hints and tips
schedule 12 Apr 2012

I'm a forty year old male. I have smoked for 26 years. The last few years I have smoked a minimum of 1 packet a day. I have never tried or wanted to quit before. I started out cold turkey on the 3rd January 2012 I woke up on this day and decided enough was enough. I decided to go cold turkey as my quit day was a spur of the moment thing having said that Im all for NRT , champix, hypnotherapy or self help books whatever it takes to quit as everyone is an individual.

Today is 100 days smoke free I have saved about $1600.00.So far on this journey I have not had a single slip up and have resisted temptation every time it has risen its ugly clever head. My taste buds are bursting out of my mouth i havent put on any weight, my sense of smell is amazing in fact its actually a bit of a negative some people and perfumes really smell so bad.

Listed below are things that I have encountered over the last 100 days. 1. Only you and you alone can make the decision to quit. 2. Cravings happen at the worst times when your at your most vunerable that's why they are called cravings. 3. I miss smoking and the things associated with it expect to grieve and mourn its okay like all losses life moves on. 4. Your smoking friends whilst some will be supportive a lot will be jealous and will tempt you. As your failing validates their own addiction. 5. I am addicted to smoking and I always will be. I am not a non-smoker I will always be a recovering smoking addict. One puff will lead to one smoke which will lead to one pack and then onto one carton. 6. Be proud of all your achievements be it one hour or 100 days only we know how really hard this addiction is to beat.

lastly expect to change a bit and get cranky over little things. If you are lucky enough to have a support person show them that you appreciate them. I wouldn't have gotten this far without willpower and my loving understanding very tolerant beautiful wife.

Congratulations on your quit journey Freakboy, your story and words are truly inspiring.

I loved every word of your story, you're a realist with strong willpower and resolve, and pretty much summed up everything perfectly.

Well done buddy. You have a great knack with the self analysis. I think that is a huge contributor to being successful on this quit journey. When you can step back, take a look at yourself and understand why you want to behave in certain ways, its easier to change your behaviour. Your points 2, 3 and 5 bear this out I think. Thanks for your support on my journey so far too. I'm looking forward to my 100 days.
