The rule of 3

Posted in Hints and tips
schedule 9 Mar 2012

I cant even remember where i got this information from and maybe it is not true but it definately seems this way for me with the quit attempts (and this awesome quit success) i have had so i decided to share it.

The rule of 3 is that the hardest times in beating an addition is on day 3, during week 3 and during month 3. For me this is when i want them, crave them and MUST MUST have them.

If i remind myself that its ok as its the rule of 3 and its one of those bad times, i seem to be able to move on from it a little easier and remain strong.

Another part of the rule of 3 is that a craving lasts 3 minutes so keep yourself occupied for 3 minutes and you will get past that nasty, horrible craving. :)

Another part of the rule of 3 is that it takes 3 minutes (on average) to smoke a whole cigarette. Everytime you think about smoking use that three minutes to do something nice instead of inhaling poison and killing yourself.

Simple! The Rule of 3.

3 days

3 weeks

3 months

3 minutes for a craving

3 extra minutes in your life.

hope this helps :)

Hi Mellie13. Sounds like a fair theory you have there. I think if it's a method that worked for you then why not share it with others. Passings on hints or tips is a great way to help others as well as yourself.

They there thanks Mellie for sharing your rule 3. I'm going use that rule when I hit those times in my non smoking journey.

I think your rule of three is fantastic. You're absolutely right when you say knowing what is ahead prepares you better for dealing with the temptation. Understanding what a craving is and why it is happening makes a huge difference in this journey. I have found by reading about other people's experiences it is has prepared me for the tough times.

Well done Mellie.
