Im excited to be free of this addiction. Im ashamed to smoke. It's killing me and I need to breathe to exercise. I also want to encourage my wife and mum to stop smoking. It smells bad and makes my clothes and car and breath stink. I have one cigarette left then tomorrow morning I'll have a shower and try patches. I will be fine.

Hi Lief,

Thanks for sharing. It sounds like you have put a lot of thought into your reasons for quitting and are really motivated to make this change. Wanting to breathe easier, exercise more comfortably and be a positive influence for your family are really powerful reasons to quit.

It's great that you have already thought about your plan for the morning and are looking at patches to support you. Many people find nicotine replacement therapy can really help with managing the cravings - especially in the early days.

Try to be kind to yourself as you start this process. Quitting smoking is a big step and it can take time for your body and mind to adjust. But the benefits do begin quite quickly :)

If you'd like some extra support along the way, you're very welcome to contact Quitline. Our counsellors can talk through strategies, help with managing cravings and support you through your quit journey. You can contact us on 13 78 48 whenever it suits you.

Wishing you the best in your quit journey. Feel free to keep us updated on how you're going!
