Getting started ...... So I'm 62 and have smoked since 14. I recently had a ct to find out why I have a severe chronic cough. Surprisingly lungs were great! No cold but very minor emphezema changes. Not the caused of my cough, it's a thyroid issues. But I feel like I'm dodging a bullet to hi this long and so it's time to act!!!;

I quit once before by vaping, HUGE MISTAKE. I tried NRT which is very successful for many but didn't really work for me. Today I went to my gp, got a script for quitting medication (nicotine blocker) and I've set my quit date for July 19th.

I'm super excited but also anxious. I became a paraplegic in 2013 and my smoking doubled, likely due to boredom. So definately have to be well prepared for the date ahead.

HERE WE GO! .

I take the meds. A good idea is to get started on the meds prior to your quit date. Just because it’s a build up. In the first week you only have one tablet then build up to date & night.

I didn’t know this & couldn’t get the script filled until the day after I quit. I still stayed off them. 20 days now. Follow the instructions on the pack. I recommend taking the tablet in the middle of or immediately after your meal & drink lots of water. Best wishes :)

Have you thought about changing things up , like places where you smoked re decorate . Ie : the deck was a place I smoked often . I made it into a quit oasis or retreat that made it a cozy place to visit . Instead of cigarettes and ashtray , lighting , fav flowers , positive uplifting audio books upbeat music , bird feeders I replaced the cigarette ( something I thought I enjoyed ) for what I truly enjoyed . Cigarettes are nothing . I like what puff n o more said about removing doubt . Doubt is a negative thought , replace with love and trust . You are doing this for you . You are worth it .

I hope you are feeling better and glad to hear that the doctor got down to the bottom of your health concerns . I hope treatment for the thyroid issues will help you to feel much better . I do know that quitting smoking will help too . Good job taking care of yourself and being proactive .

Thankyou for all your support. Today is about day 7 of the medication, they suggest to quit about 10-14 days after starting. I have noticed, without trying, that I'm down to 7 a day so it's clearly starting to work!
