3rd time around

Hi to all you brave powerful people,

This is the first time I have joined a community to assist in beating my addiction and stop being a slave to nicotine and tobacco. ( so it may become long winded)

I have been a consistent smoker for 35 years, I have watched my Mother pass at the age of 50 due to lung cancer, yet here I am at almost 52 years of age and still smoking it's horrifying to think off.

This my 3rd serious attempt at quitting, My first attempt I managed to remove tobacco from my life for 8 months only to relapse after socializing with friends at the local club thinking one wont hurt, how wrong I was. that was 5 years ago.

The second attempt 2 years ago was 4 months but relapsed after some stressful times between myself and my spouse and just convinced myself this will help relieve the stress. Which I guess in a sense it did, but in reality that's all it did was move the stress to a different location in my life renewed addiction.

I really got the message wrong, Short term pleasure for long term pain.

We must all remember this when quitting. It's SHORT TERM PAIN FOR LONG TERM PLEASURE never the other way round.

Anyway I am back on the rampage to dissolve this horrid addiction this time with the support of like minded people to encourage and support me in those times of confusion and frustration. I wish all those on this rollercoaster of a ride all my support, strength, courage and compassion you are a capable, strong and determined individual whom I admire for your courage to take back control over your life blessings to all.

I've been with relapses. The first two attempts I quit with Chantix. I relapsed both times at 3 months. This time, I quit cold turkey 2 weeks ago. My physical withdrawals are basically gone, but now it's a psychological withdrawals I'm dealing with. I'm taking it one day at a time. If I feel like caving in, I drink water or exercise. So far that's working. I wish you the best. You can do it
