2nd Go Round

I am 55 yrs old and I had started back when in my teens because it was the thing to do in the 1980s and had continued to do so because there was really no reason to quit(cigarettes were @ $1 -$2 USD a pack, but I did anyway for something to do and see if I could do it. Few people knew I smoked anyway. I remained quit (@ 5 yrs) until Covid 19 hit and sent home so I started again as a reason to get out of my house and I always did it by myself. By that time the price had increased to @ $ 6 USD. Now where I live cigarettes cost @ $9 USD a pack and I have now quit for 6 days and really do not have a desire to start again. At times I think why did I like doing it before as a reason to start again and give me something to do? I know if I use the mentality just "one more" and I will stop then, I will start again full time(sneaking out in my back yard trying to be a closet smoker) as I had been down this road before. Everyday I wake up and struggle with thinking will I or won't I. So far I have been good and hope to continue as I look at it as being a mental failure to start again. Now I am enjoying smelling better and getting my sense of taste and smell back which most people don't realize you lose when smoking as well as the other health benefits as well saving @ $60 USD from not having to buy cigarettes and my wife saying you were smoking again weren't you as well as enjoying kissing again! That was my story and reasons Hopefully you can find yours, it is well worth it!

I am glad that you found your motivation for remaining quit and have learned the lesson of NOPE. It is no longer a decision to wrestle with everyday once we make up our minds and follow through. There is no debate, for we have chosen and envisioned our better future. It becomes easier with every passing day, and eventually not even thought of.
Congratulations to you and to all who have understood that this is a Mental challenge and have freed yourselves from the clutches of nicotine. It does lose its power when you let it. We are stronger than nicotine and are better for it.
When you believe you can do it, you will.
