Sad

I am 55 and have been smoking for 38 years. I have quit a number of times for up to 3 years. I am currently 11 days smoke free and have been ok until today. I can’t stop crying. I have suffered depression/ anxiety in my life before and am terrified I am going back to that place. Is this crying on day 10 normal?

Hi there Kenny,
Nicotine feeds our brains reward system this is an instant reward your brain is missing that right now so it's obviously going to be a bit sad please remeber to find other ways to reward yourself
Go buy your fav chocolate or snack, buy yourself a yummy coffee. Reward yourself you deserve it and remeber nobody ever regrets giving up

Yes Kendy the crying is normal- it will persist but will lessen over time- you are are going through loss of smoking and your physche is trying to trick you back to the fags to medicate with for depression. I’d fit persists past 2 weeks go see the doctor otherwise wise sleep lots keep your mind off it do things to keep your mind away and think happy thoughts- good luck buddy!

I might be concerned if you were taking Champix. Champix has been known to cause depression and even lead to suicide. I urge all who take it to be aware and to make the fact known to family and friends should there be a personality chance. It is also a great way to free yourself from smoking since it takes the pleasure out of smoking and contains no nicotine as NRT's do.
That said, everyone has there own challenges with quitting smoking it seems. If you are truly concerned with anything, also seek medical help.
