So this is the first time in forever where I have actually gone through the motions and quit on the day I said I would, which was Monday 2/5/22 we are at the beginning of day 4 and I still want it so bad I’m exhausted. Have not slept at all since Monday my sleep is so broken I hope this gets easier at some stage all I want to do is light up I’m not having any positive butterfly and rainbow emotions yet just miss my smoke my friend but going to see a hypnotherapist tomorrow and I hope she can help with the grieving aspect of giving up the cigarettes . Any useful hints to help the mind agree this is the best thing ever would appreciate it .

It seems you are off to a good start and following through with your desires this time. I strongly suggest that you read our stories and find the belief that even YOU can quit smoking. I did and I had given up on the idea decades ago and resigned myself to being a life-long smoker. Once joining a group, understanding why we smoke and that YES , We CAN quit smoking, I tried, and succeeded!

I try to give more understanding in my responses, so read the advice and comments given by myself and others. to gain more insight into the process.

Most of all think positive. It may be difficult for you as it has been for most, but even so, I know that I am not an exception......my hubby, daughter and others here will tell you it was easier than they expected. There are some who I deemed would fail, but found it within themselves to push on and win the war on nicotine addiction. Of course, It is not only about nicotine, but the psychological dependence we come to have on the act itself. Since we could not admit drug addiction, we believed it did something to rationalize our unthinkable action of systematically poisoning ourselves while paying for the privilege's to so.

Change how you think of smoking, and change your life. Have you ever heard anyone wishing they smoked? Have you ever heard anyone to tell their kids to smoke....because they don't know what they are missing.?

The truth is that we are not missing anything when we quit smoking. We gain our independence, self respect, confidence and health. Who can put a price on those?

Your title says it all ,Trying !

That is what it is all about, because you know what you really want to do. Once you are ready you will gradually be able to shift your focus onto the positives about quitting smoking.

It just happens.

I smoked for over 36 years but half of this time was spent wanting to quit. I wonder now why did it it take me so long to realise that I don’t really need it?

You don’t need it either

Be kind to yourself. After quitting treat yourself to something nice, you deserve it !

And when I say be kind to yourself really be kind and look at yourself in a very positive way. Be grateful for all the good things in your life don’t dwell on the negatives. You’ve definitely got this just keep looking straight ahead

Thank you so so much appreciate your support it’s easy to get lost in negative emotions I’ve made myself believe that my cigarette was my friend it was my down time and my stress relief my happy place even though I’ve always said if I could change 1 thing in my life it would be not ever having picked up a cigarette but I can’t undo the past just need to concentrate on the now , this very moment day by day and hopefully “this to shall pass” I always tell my kids that I need to believe it to Day 6 and looking forward to day 66 smoke free just can’t wait for the YUCKIES to pass 😢🥺
