Feeling determined

I quit for 5 days then caved last night and bought a pack. Smoked maybe half of it and soaked the rest of the pack in water and threw them out about an hour ago. I don't want to quit quitting. I am so tired of being a slave to the stuff. Any tips and tricks welcome. I really want to be done for good!

Hi Piff and welcome to this support group/family! 5 days is something to be proud of. Well, you caved but it's not at a loss. Get back on that horse! Keep going as if this slip never happened. :You can do it. You got rid of the rest so that is a sure sign you are serious.
I have always suggested to quit 1 hour at a time and when you have that mastered, go 1 day at a time. Breath deep, drink water, keep busy and go to bed early. The first few days are the hardest for most people. The biggest suggestion is to get your "mind" into it.
You have a choice to quit or to smoke and you are choosing to QUIT. Picture yourself being successful as a non-smoker. Be positive, think positive, talk positive. Of course you can do it,... many have! Many have asked for tips and tricks, turning to this site for help. I would suggest that reading from this site will only help yourself.
You will find encouragement, education, and inspiration from many posts. Stay with this site for a while. Try to read often and write often, as both seem to be therapeutic. Yes, don't "quit on quitting"!!! You can do this. Everyone is different, but if you can get the right "mindset" you will make it easier on yourself.
One hour at a time, one day at a time. You can do this Piff !!!!

Thank you so much for your comment! I've been working on getting in the right mindset for a while now and watering that seed. I stumbled across this site while searching for all I could about quitting smoking support and it seems like a great resource! I will definitely be coming here whenever I need an extra boost which I suspect will be pretty often in the beginning.

Piff you got this. Honestly five days is amazing 👏 your back again that takes strength. It's a horrible demon is nicotine..

Thanks, Chellie! I am definitely going to give it my all! Another 24+ hours under my belt...

5 days is a really good effort Piff. Just try again until you nail it. It doesn’t matter how many times you try so don’t worry about that. The point is you are trying to quit this addiction.

Believing you can makes it possible. That's what did it for me when I joined a forum.
You need to want to quit and you have demonstrated that you do. The rest comes much easier then. . We learn that smoking did nothing....just smoke and mirrors....reflecting how we were drugged and duped. When we understand why we smoke, we can open our minds and change how we see and feel about our addiction. We are empowered by seeing others succeeding and we strive to emmulate their success.
We are stronger than the nicotine addiction and we can break life long habits by creating others. I did the dishes right off, and that felt good. One job down......
While learning and getting support while you are quitting is good, but I also recommend dropping in periodically to keep the nicotine man at bay and to encourage other new members in the years to come. Why not? Experiencing pride and helping others (if not yourself) also brings a good feeling and the dopamine we crave.
Keep thinking positive! You can and will do this!

Thanks so much 🙏 I definitely want to be free so badly. I have quit a hundred times before but I don't think I've ever wanted it so bad. This time really feels like it is going to stick. Still going strong since I posted!

It takes some willpower to throw out a packet of cigarettes at day 5. Very impressive and shows a lot of dedication. I'm a recidivist as well and hoping this attempt (starting tomorrow) will be the one that works. Stay strong!

GillR I am rooting for you! Now 25 days later and I haven't caved since. You can totally do it!!!
