Day 1, Hour 1

Today is the day for me and I’m at the hour of having my first cigarette, have a patch on but feeling a bit shaky and not too confident but I’m just going to give it a go. Trying not to make it a huge deal cause then I obsess and then cave. Going to have a coffee in a different setting and see how l go.

Hello Cleanqueen and WELCOME! All you can do is one hour at a time, one day at a time until it adds up (and it will). After a few days, it WILL GET EASIER. Be strong and keep thinking YOU have CONTROL over your life, not the other way around!!! If for some reason you cave, then you cave but get right back to your quit! Right away. Don't let one cave get you back to smoking like your old self. Just go on quitting, pretend it didn't happen. Learn to be stronger and more positive. Read all the positive and inspiring stories from this community. Some had it easy, some not (in fact, it looks like most had a struggle the first few days, myself included).
You can do this. A different setting for your coffee is very smart of you. I think you know what you need to do. I have faith in you Cleanqueen!! You need to eventually get nicotine out of your system for good. You know how to use the patch and you know you will need to get off the patch at some point. There are all kinds of ways to quit. Whatever fits your being is what you need to do. Hang in there and stay close to this site.

Welcome Cleanqueen and congratulations on choosing to make the change. Yes just focus on 1hr, 1 day at a time. Keep busy, just distract yourself and remember its only a habit and addiction, so it can be beat you just have to want it. So back yourself Cleanqueen, you can do this!! NOPE2021 is correct, it gets easier and your confidence and belief will astound you if you just stick at it. Stay close to the site, we will cheer you on. Hello Cleanqueen. Congrats on taking the steps to freedom. You deserve it and it undoubtedly one of if not the best decisions we have made in our lives. No one regrets having quit smoking and no one wishes that they smoked.
When you look at it for what it is, an ADDICTION, you can see if for what it really is and how we did not CHOOSE to smoke forever. How could we believe it could taste so bad that we had to choke and gag, and yet still become addicted. Why wouldn't we believe it was enjoyable when so many smokers said that they enjoyed it. Perhaps they enjoyed not having the cravings if they were wise enough to make a stand and say "Enough".
We are stronger than nicotine when we simply make up our minds to.
Smoking never did anything for us. Remember that.
Break the cycle and enjoy the freedom that being a non-smoker brings.
You will look better, smell better and feel better almost instantly.
There are no pluses to smoking but benefits abound in quitting smoking.
Thinking in these terms will stop you from idolizing the cigarette and spur you on to success. Like Robn said, you will not crave what you do not want. Striving for a wanted goal is much easier when it is something that we truly want. Desire freedom and your life back more than alleviating a temporary craving. Cravings are really only thoughts. Don't debate! You have CHOSEN TO QUIT SMOKING. Now is the time to simply make up your mind and DO IT!

I'm on day five after 44 years and cold Turkey so hang in there. Just keep thinking that Nicodemon (nicotine) wants you back with him playing with your mind body heart it's very powerful but you have to stand up to nicodemon and say go back away please now. Your doing great one step at a time

Thanks very much for those encouraging and kind comments but I have to confess l folded today. I lost my beautiful Dad 6 months ago so it was a really hard day for me. I really don’t know why I thought having a cigarette would help because it didn’t, it tasted disgusting and made me feel sick and it made me hate myself. All I can do is try again, it helped to read other people slipped up too.

Keep on trying and you will succeed Cleanqueen. Stick with us and you will prevail.👍

Yup... Been there, done that... Most all of us have slipped BUT, we are here now NOT slipping and you can do it too. Get your head together, set a date and quit again. Keep quitting until you quit for good. That's all you can do. We are behind you when don't slip up and we are behind you when you do slip up. We are the most knowledgeable to understanding what you are going through. Hang in there with us. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and do it again until you succeed (and you WILL succeed)!!!!
