Just keep busy... mastering the art of distraction

I have quite so many times.... every time I ran out really, i would 'quit' ~ for a few days, weeks, months, and once, I even managed a few years.

What I find is, if my monkey mind is hammering me with thoughts of buying 'just one more pack', I put a patch on and within 5 minutes I'm busy doing something else and my mind has quietened. If I don't put a patch on, I am likely to get online and order some. I don't use patches every day, I use them as a response to my monkey mind, then I leave it on all day, and I have no messages from my mind. When I have used patches all day, every day, I don't find they work as well. Perhaps that's just me? In any case, it's really nice to not smell like smoke, for my hands and hair to smell nice, and for my breathing to be easy. It's been just a few weeks since this latest 'quit' began, and, the first time I've engaged a different method - using this forum - and just seeing the emails in my inbox is enough to make me congratulate myself on my progress and to stay strong. Where previously I would think about putting a patch on, and often I wouldn't, I would just get online and order some more then countdown the days until it arrived, now I'm consistent. This is working! Every day without is a day of greater health, for which I am grateful.

You seem to have the psychological part of breaking the habit down.which seems a to be the longest and trickiest part of the process.

You are aware that patches do keep the drug addiction alive. Nicotine is still nicotine however we administer it. NOPE....not one puff ever! That goes for patches too. You know you best, but even the bandaid has to come off eventually. Dome have stopped smoking but become addicted to the nrt's. I am sure you have it well in hand.

Congratulations and happy day. You got mail and no bills!

Sounds like you got a good thing going with how you are keeping quit. I'm looking forward to hearing more of your quit journey 🙌
