Hi I dont have any quit tips as I fail every time I try. I will share my story with all of you. I am 81 and have smoked for the last 60 years. I panic when I am down to my last cigarette, then I go an buy a packet, then I am so down on myself. I am an age pensioner so how can I buy a packet every day on my age pension, its for the money I could save that is why I really want to stop. Thanks for any advise

Hi Jeraldine and Welcome.

I think that if you read our stories and learn about the addiction to nicotine you will find the motivation and belief in yourself to quit. Myself as well as others also resigned ourselves to smoke until the end of our days, never believing that we could break the habit. Well it is an addiction. Yes you are an addict. Kinda scary right? A good thing it was legal, or was it? Maybe we might have tried harder to quit.

Even after the nicotine is out of our system, the reliance we came to have on our crutch, our friend, is hard to cast aside. When we learn that it did nothing for us, and so offers us nothing , no reason to keep it on /in hand. it easier to say goodbye.

It was not a friend.

Do not mourn it.

Cast it aside and move on.

We did and you can.

Stay and learn. Prepare and then set a date to quit. You WANT to have money for better things. You want better health. You want to smell fresh and clean. You want to be free of the worry and it's endless demands to be fed. It does not have to be hard to quit. If i had known how easy it could be, and was, I would have done it decades ago.

You will not crave what you do not want.

Make up your mind and say enough.

Believe that it is possible and that you will do it this time.

You are stronger than you think.

You CAN do this!

Hi Jeraldine, you have been given good advice, and I just need to say "age is no barrier", in altering your mindset and your body. You will be able to stop permentantly this time, if you can do some research on Nicotine (the drug that keeps you hooked).

The Habit, as Happiness has suggested can be achieved, by practicing NOPE (not one puff ever). I have failed previously and this worked and still works for me. I also had to kick my so called friend into the gutter, I developed better friendships after a while and could choose which ones to keep or which ones to ignore. You can do this too.

It will give you so much more than the extra money, (which was my top reason) It will give you much needed respect for yourself. Come back again if you need to any time.

Don't worry if your main reason for Quitting the smokes is for money! It doesn't make much sense paying $100 or $200 a week, if you leave yourself $50 for your weekly grocery shop! Eventually you may find yourself unable to pay for petrol in your car or unable to pay for a bus ticket to even get to the shops at all?

There has never been a better reason to Quit!
