Quitting For Good

Posted in Getting started
schedule 7 Feb 2021

I’ve been a smoker on and off (mostly on) since I was about 16. I started in high school, and have attempted to quit many times over the past 14 years. This is probably my strongest attempt yet at 33 days. I had struggled with other issues of addiction (mainly marijuana) in my early-mid 20’s only finally giving up when I fell pregnant with my now 3 1/2 year old daughter. And I did quit smoking when I was about 24ish weeks into my pregnancy. But when I had to start proceedings to receive child support from her father and attend family court the stress became to much and I went back to my trusty friend “the cigarette”. I turned 30 last month and have been struggling financially and as we all know smoking isn’t the cheapest habit- so I finished off that last pack of smokes, scrounged up enough for a pack of patches and am slowly feeling better, breathing better, not freaking out that I’ll get lung cancer and not see my daughter grow up. It isn’t easy, I still get cranky and irritable often but it’s slowly getting easier. Now my next goal is to loose weight and stick with going to the gym.

Good on you for choosing a better life. Don't just lament that you quit because you could not afford them. Keep reading our stories and keep the desire to quit for all the other benefits as well. Don't wait to go to the gym because of lack of funds.....walking is free, then brisk walking, running, jogging or stay at home and dance. Your child will love it! Resistance bands are very cheap and soup cans are great to start with. We find ways to do what we want to do, or we find excuses not to.

Homemade food is cheaper and you can read the ingredients in it. Teach your child how to eat healthy. Be a good example. Make quitting smoking your main goal and make better choices here and there with the rest. You will be amazed.
