Hello! I've been a smoker for 15 years and have made numerous attempts to quit, some as I did as long as 6 months but fell into the faulty thinking that I could have just one. Now I'm struggling because I really want to quit but am so scared of failing. I'm so glad I found a community like this. I think the hardest parts for me are going to be that my partner is a smoker (though he is very supportive) and I know when I get emotional or upset my willpower feels completely gone. I look forward to being a part of this supportive community! I've set my quit date for next Monday, February 1.

Hi Janruth! I’m

New here today today, I saw the inspirational stories and support and thought “I need these people!!” Ive been cutting down for over A month and I’m now averaging between 3-6 ciggies a day. I’m just off out to buy the spray as Apparently combined with patches this is really handy! I’ve tried the lozenges and they aren’t so bad either! I also have a Dr appointment tonight to see if I can have Champix to get me over the last hurdle. Good luck on your journey..... we can do this!!!! Xx

Welcome Janruth and also Wa;ler17, You have come to the right place for support, You can and will succeed this time around Janruth, I had tried three times before over a great number of years. I didnt have this support though, and I think this is the best thing to help everyone come to terms with firstly the hold that Nicotine has over our bodies, and secondly how we can remain positive throughout our quit. Please feel free to post warts and all anytime, I advocate NOPE (not one puff ever) spoken silently or loud or in note form every day. This helped me to remain smoke free.

Walker17 you are doing really well, and seem to have a plan in place, keep up the motivation and I also recommend the Mantra NOPE (not one puff ever) this worked for me and it can work for you. Everyone can practice this mantra, or create a mantra that you think suits you. I am glad you are in touch with your Doctor you will need a script for Champix. You can even do it on your own if you want to, it is all up to you.

Congratulations to both of you on the first step towards a happy healthy and rewarding experience with finances in our control You don't know what you are capable of until you do it. NOPE (not one puff ever)

Look forward to this quit Jannuth. Past quits are just that, the past. They were practice runs and hopefully you learn something new every time. You have learned that you can't have just one, so get that out of your head. Look forward to all the benefits you will enjoy as a non-smoker. Look forward to this journey as you would any trip. This will be the best journey you ever take. Positive thinking makes it much more enjoyable.

I am a little confused with statements made by Walker. Champix does not contain nicotine like patches do. You would be defeating the purpose of Champix which takes away the desire to smoke and hence you become nicotine free. Patches give you small doses of nicotine to take the edge off, while the spray delivers a quick burst somewhat like when we smoked cigarettes. Replace the satisfying jolts of dopamine with new ways. Lavender, learning, hugs and feel good things all contribute to our sense of well being. Learn the mindset which is needed after the first phase of nicotine addiction is dealt with. The psychological aspect will also need to be addressed. You can quit smoking. We did. Think positive and believe that you can. We did!

Welcome Janruth, I am very similar to you, several several quit attempts but always misguided myself in thinking I could have just one! I am over two weeks down now and feeling fabulous.

I also have a supportive partner who smokes and it actually helps me now because when he has one I want to be sick he smells so bad, and it has allowed me to sit around it and create new pathways in my brain so it doesn’t trigger me to want one anymore.

I absolutely believe that if you think it will be a struggle it will, and if you think it won’t be a struggle it won’t! Good luck and I am looking forward to sharing this journey with you. You’ve got the power, you have done it before, you can do it again :)

Welcome Janruth and Walker17,

Everyone on this forum experienced what you are going through right now including self doubt and fear of failure. I know I did. Since I've been off cigs for a while now I can only tell you that you can definitely succeed but it'll take effort and willpower. However, the freedom you get is so worth it. And no cheating. There is no such thing as just one puff because one puff will take you right back where you started, a full blown addiction. Practice NOPE - not one puff ever.

Good luck
