Hello everyone, this is my first day on the process of quitting. I have attempted to quit many times in the past but I can’t stand the feelings of guilt, shame and worries about my health anymore. I have been trying to quit for months now and manage to avoid cigarettes for a few hours until the night comes and I fail again, recently the worst has been not having a smoke in the morning before beginning my day, I always find myself in the middle of a cigarette before I realize I shouldn’t have lit it on the first place. It gets worst the days my smoker significant other is home. I am really hoping being here will help distract me and remind me I can do this just like many of you had. Please wish me luck and strength, I need this forum as my support group

Good luck Jules! It is definitely daunting thinking of all the ways it impacts on your health, so it makes it even better the immediate benefits you feel when you stop, and that continue to grow.

I am only on day 3. I was meant to stop on the 1st of January, but it took me a few too many days to sort my head out. I tell you day three is lovely, I feel like I can breathe again and my lungs aren’t hurting, I’m not wheezing.

I try and remain positive everyday about my choice by dictating to myself that I have been a slave to nicotine and want to be my own master. I Love not smelling around my children it really keeps me going, and I visualise what I am going to feel and look like in a years time, it is a beautiful person I look at, and she is free from the slavery. You got this, hang in there, and try and change those worries into positives, good luck!

Heya Jules

It sounds like you have easy access to cigarettes. You should make it impossible for yourself to grab a smoke.

I was like you, loved my morning cigarette with my coffee.

I replaced that with waking up early, drinking a bottle of water and running on the treadmill for an hour

It’s all mental. I’ve been smoke free going on say 47, and the thought of lighting up makes me nautious.

You can do this thing👍

Thank you both for the encouragement 😊

yeah I need to learn to focus only on the positive and change my routine even if just for a little while. Not easy but I won’t give up

Welcome Jules, Day 1 so proud of you. Yes we need to change our habits, but we also need to change our thinking about why we are changing our lifestyle. Maybe a glass of water at night time might do the physical part, the mental part is to practice a Mantra which fits you We use NOPE (not one puff ever) it keeps you motivated and strong but you can use it as often as you like.

Keep reading our posts, and we are all here for you, Learn about the drug Nicotine and how much it controls you. You need to take back your control, it has always been there and will always be there. Let us know if you are on any Nicotine therapy or any other aids. Day 2 is nearly over you can do it. NOPE (not one puff ever)

Softly40, I like that mantra and will use it I’m sure it could help. Not on any nicotine therapy right now and not too sure I want it either, nicotine is my enemy and I want it far away from my body 😉

I know all about starting again and again I did it for all of 2020 how crazy. The shame and guilt was so depressing especially when everyone thought I’d quit and I had to lie to all crazy. It’s super hard but you can do this. I’m on day nine and feel okay but most all it’s the honesty with yourself. I got some nrt gum for just when it too much have only had about 2 day for about a minute definitely helped. Remember everyone is different and just what is right for you. Best of luck. Stay strong and positive

Hi Evergreen 🙂

Congratulations on being smoke free for 9 days, wow!I agree with you we are all different. I used nicotine patch in the past and they help but I relapsed so this time I want to go without any replacement for as long as I can and if it becomes too much to handle I will definitely be getting something, gum makes me really nauseous though so if it happens I will try patches again. So far being here has been of great help, specially because nobody in my family knows I smoke! I can wait for the day I can look at my mom in the eyes without feeling shame for being a smoker and without the worry of causing her a great heartbreak.

Staying positive, working on the strength
