- My second day.
My second day.

Its my 2nd day and im struggling but Im determined to stop. Im 73 and have been smoking for 60 years, recently the medics found I had cancer of the colon. During the scans they found I had emphysema.
Im going into hospital next Friday, 4th November for the operation and will not be doing much for 4/5 weeks. The maybe chemo or radiation.Im not complaining, its my own fault, I should have listened but those smoke gremlins in my brain told me not to listen to common sense, it will all be OK.
So here am I, now fighting the fight of my life and a fight I will win!!
The surgeon has given me a 65% chance of living past my 78th birthday as long as I can get over the operation and the next few months.
So Im at the keyboard, a few more minute have gone by without smoking, minutes turn into hours, hours turn into days which turn into weeks, Ill be happy in a months time so I can look back and say "That wasn't too hard, was it?" Ill keep you informed as the days go by. David

Hi David. You are still here to fight another day, and good years ahead. Concentrate on fighting the cancer knowing you have cut off the cause. It may be your fault for not listening to reason , but forgive yourself for falling victim to nicotine when you were so young. I smoked heavily over 40 years and it caught up to me . Thankfully I had quit a year before my stroke, so my body had had some time to recover. Now I am walking 1-2 miles a day and feel great. You too have been given a second chance.
Think positive as negative thoughts only cause stress. We quit and you can too. You already have good reason to want cigarettes out of your life, and further facts should make that even easier. Once the nicotine is out of your system, the psychological battle begins. This is why you need the proper mindset to combat it. Read stories, learn how to deal with the pitfalls and adjust your plan accordingly. I quit earlier than expected and I had a very easy quit. Some of my stories may help you. Allan Carr's free e-book link is amongst them. 100% recommended reading.
Stay determined, stay free and please stay in touch.

Welcome david, you are now on the right track, and you are now doing something for yourself. Nicotine is the addictive substance that has grabbed on to all of us on this website, keep on reading and learning and posting you will come out the other end a lot better than where you are now, in many ways. NOPE (not one puff ever)

Hi David. What a powerful message you send to all those thinking of quitting. I wish you well and I hope this message sends a strong message to those embarking on the quit trail. Just shows how addictive and insidious this habit is. Has little mercy on those who succumb. All smokers will have a penalty to pay eventually. Let's hope your message stirs everyone.
