Chantix?

Hello, I am new to this group. I have been a smoker off and on since I was 16. I am now 46. I have tried several times off an on through the years to quit and have had some success, but have always gone back to it. I now have a 6 yr old granddaughter and my boys are 18 and 26. I want to be there for them as long as I can. Also, my husbands ex-wife just died from lung cancer (age 59). So, I have started Chantix today. Does anyone have any success stories, tips, etc for taking Chantix? Yes, I have already heard all of the horror stories and side effects. I am going into this with a positive mind set and my goal quit date is October 8th. Thanks in advance for any support. :)

Hello hollydolly, I was on Champix, and this was the best option for me which took me off of the Nicotine, which is the addictive part in a cigarette. This is very important and is not advertised enough through other products. Everyone is different so one size does not fit all. I had very vivid nightmares so I dropped one dose in the evening, this still worked for me, I would say because I too had tried a few times before and had some idea of what to expect.
The main points to remember are. The Nicotine is out of your body sooner.... you need to adjust your dose as you progress, eg: the evening dose can be taken with your dinner, or you can drop the 2nd dose.....You need to keep in touch with your doctor for the scripts.....You need to work out the date when you actually stop puting that cigarette into your mouth, and you then need to work out when to actually stop using Champix (this is the Australian product)
Give yourself rewards along the way and I strongly suggest adopting NOPE (not one puff ever) as your Mantra everyday, every night, seeing as you have lapsed before. This time you will succeed you have this forum and plenty of support from others who are going through this process. Enjoy the ride.

Well Hello Dolly. Welcome!
While Champix will assist you greatly through the nicotine addiction, don't forget about reading and learning about nicotine and smoking, how it did nothing for you and how quitting the day to day dependence on it is another great step in the journey. We have to accept it wholeheartedly and take control of it in our minds rather than allowing it to debate the issue of quitting in your head.
Just one won't hurt....says the one voice, while we know just one can be your undoing. Don't temp fate. NOPE....Not one puff ever.
Change your mind and change your life!
