Hi everyone. I’m on here again because I just can’t seem to quit 😢 I’m suffering from depression at the moment as well as stressed. I want to quit but it doesn’t seem like a good time to do so. I need a lot of encouragement but I’m not getting that at home as I don’t want to bother others as they all have enough to deal with. I’m at my wits end with smoking & trying to loose weight. I’m on here for support as I need it. When is the right time?

Welcome Kylie79 anyone can quit at any time, if they really want to, your support people who might be able to help at some stage, has probably got a few issues themselves at present. We are all here for you. You can start by letting us know whether you have tried but stopped, and what method you are using, Cold Turkey or NRT's (Nicotine replacement therapy).

I would suggest, that you might find it easier to work on not smoking only for a few months, and then tackle your food intake at roughly the 2-3 month mark. Stress and depression could be linked to you not taking small steps to begin with, it is just my thoughts until we get to know you better.

Kylie, there is never a good time to stop. The time is now. Have you tried using the Chantix pill. I used it the first time I quit. It 💯 stopped all my cravings from the very first pill I took. There is a part of your brain that tells you that you want a cigarette, and what Chantix does is puts a blocker in front of that part of your brain. When I used it I literally had zero cravings. I had quit for a year and then one day when I was drinking a few beers I told myself that only one cig would be okay and I wasn’t even craving one, it just sounded fun at the time and then I was back smoking full time in no time. I just recently quit 3 weeks ago and this time around I did it cold turkey and for some reason I’m not having craving but I’m having many physical problems as I stated in my post today that I posted. Also note that Chantix isn’t for everyone as everyone’s bodies are different, but I would 💯 try that over the patch or gum because you can get addicted to that too. Please consult with your Dr before you try it. Good luck and I have Faith in you. I am have a very addictive personality and if I can do it I sure think you can. Yes I understand the part that you don’t want to burden your family with your problems so we are all here for you. We are all hurting in one way or another. We have to look at eachother as family in these hard times, so let’s stick together and get through this together. Fists 👊🏼 up. You can do this.

Think of us as your new family when it comes to non-smoking. Forums can give you insight, tips and support. We have all been there and welcome you . You too can succeed in setting yourself from the addiction of nicotine. Replace the act of smoking with a good habit like exercising. Or take up a hobby. I enjoy participating on this site. It was a site like this that gave me the belief and confidence that The long time brainwashing could also be overcome. We feared quitting, thinking it has to be hard, but is it hard to do something that you truly want to do and believe it.

I agree that you should tackle the weight issue at a later time. be aware that a "diet" is not necessarily about calories, but a way of eating. Lots of fruit and veggies have few calories . Lean proteins and good fats. I surprised myself on how little I can eat and not be hungry.

A diet should also be sustainable, a lifestyle. As is life as a non-smoker. Envision what you want and start desiring it more than you want food or nicotine.

While champix is a good choice because it contains no nicotine but rather takes the enjoyment out of smoking, you still need to adopt the mindset of wanting to be a non-smoker. Crave that freedom, believe you can do it and be proud of yourself for daring what many won't even try. It is possible. We are proof.
