Hello everyone,

I hope I'm posting in the right area. But I have quit smoking for 14 days now, and I know that I am still in the early stages.

I can handle the cravings but I cannot handle the out of nowhere depression and the crying, even though it is not an everyday thing, IT IS NOT WHO I AM. But when it does happen I cant control it and it is starting to take a toll on my husband emotionally, and he is being 100% supportive. Unfortunately he is the only person I can go to, and I hate hurting him. He does have his own stresses to worry about and adding my depressive moments is not helping.

Can you give me any advice on what to do when the depression and crying moods hit.

Relax Tasha..maybe it is not who you are yeah..it is your addiction to cigarettes. it will pass eventually. If u can't control your emotion. Find someone you can talk, a friend maybe, distract your self..or take a walk for a while. Me personally I distance my self and grab a book because it's still lockdown I can go out plus goin out triggered my panic attack so I chose to read rather than hurt my husband's feeling nor my kids. That is why my nickname here is sadme because I used to cry a lot, panicking every now and then because of the pandemic goin around.. am yeah just take a deep breath and relax u can do it! And drink a lot of water it can help a little. Goodluck.

Thank you for responding. We pretty restricted here in my country because of lockdown, even taking a walk around the block is a no no. I do distract myself the best I can, also reading, writing and playing games. But even doing those things the emotion sneaks up on me, and I know I just have to ride it out and drink more water.

Due to the restrictions in my country, cigarettes was banned with roughly one day notice, no smoker here had a choice in the matter and it threw everybody off. I was planning on stopping and I wanted to get a "survival kit" put together before I even made a quit date, because I want to have a baby, and that is what has been pushing me through this. That's why I have started thinking that maybe the ban did me a favour and now I have no excuse. I am happy that I stopped and like I said to my husband I will not pick up a cigarette again if something so small can put pressure on our relationship, it's not worth it.

Tasha, so let me tell you that what your feeling is what almost everyone is feeling. I too cry for no reason at all, my wife is also great for support, but yes it will go away. I have been watching motivational videos on YouTube and have been meditating a lot Also on YouTube, maybe you can try that. I’m sorry your going through all of that. :(. Stay strong and we are all here for you if you need it :)

Hi Tasha. Take the time to read some stories and the comments given to gain some insight of the mindset required to make this journey much easier. Choosing to do something is easier rather than being told to do something. Our lives have been turned upside down in some cases due to this pandemic. To take away your safety blanket at this time seems cruel. However if you see it as a sign , a time to choose a better path and realize the truth in what we can tell you about nicotine, you will not continue to mourn it in the same way. Many others also mourn it as their lost friend. Yes it leaves a void . We not only have to overcome the addiction of nicotine, but fill the void and understand that it did not do anything for us.

Smoking is expensive, destructive and time controlling.

It does not help you concentrate

Nor does it relieve stress.

It causes much more stress in our lives but we needed an excuse to keep doing what we for a long time refused to admit we could not quit. It is a drug. It is addictive and make us slaves to its timetable. Own the fact and now is the time to do something about it. Become your own boss. Have money to do as you wish, and time to do things without interuption. View things in a different light. That is the mindset that leads to freedom. You will never regret that you are making these positive changes for both you and your family.

Hi Tash Dont let the addiction control you enough to argue with those closest too you. Its only an excuse to smoke. Stay strong and let him be supportive. Just apologize to him for being over emotional. It happens and is apart of it.

Great advice given to you Tasha1000. You need to alter your perception of giving up, this is not something you have to do but something you wish wholeheartedly to do. Your reasons, are a good motivator when you have decided this is your time to shine. When certain laws are in place you can get angry then depressed this is a normal reaction.

Now you have to overcome this barrier in achieving the most fruitful and happiest time of our lives, when we understand our own addiction to Nicotine, which is a drug, make no mistake about that. You will make more friends online who will help you over the rough spots but it is up to you to read and acknowledge what Nicotine does to stop you from achieving this happier life. Kick the thoughts of smoking in the gutter where they belong, Read, learn and stay close. Happier days are yet to come.

Thank you all for your responses, it has helped me to feel alot better. I know alot of people are going through a tough time, and I feel for you all, honestly. You know, I mite still get some cravings and a moment of miss for a cigarette, and a cry here and there, but I am so over cigarettes and the drama its caused in my body because of myself. I will never pick up this habit again.
