Cutting down

Hi Quitters. I’m a noob quitter 20 times over. Signed up yesterday. I’ve set a quit date of 23 March. I plan to cut down over the next 3 weeks from 25+ per day. Is that too quick? I wonder if there’s any useful tips for cutting back?

You need to want to quit so as Red says think aout each one. Make smoking as unenjoyable as you can. You do not want to cut ack too much or you might defeat the purpose . Practicing diverting your attention to other things in preparation. Reading posts and Allen Carrs book is also a great idea. Get in the right frame of mind. You can do it!

Thanks Red67 and Happiness for sharing your feedback. I think pausing to ask myself “do I really want this cigarette?” is a fabulous addition to the commitment to record each smoke. It will help me to stay conscious of my triggers and direct attention back to smoking being something I choose to do, not an unbreakable, all-powerful addiction.

i agree with the above thoughts, for me though i would have my last cigarette about 730pm watch tv for an hour or so then go to bed and then have my first for the day 30min after getting out of bed. So that was about 12 hours of not smoking. If i could do it of a night time without a need for nicotine why couldnt i do it during the day? Thats when you start questioning the need for that next smoke. I am 4 weeks free today, doing it by believing in myself probably for the first time in my life, and staying close to this forum. Good Luck on your upcoming journey!
