Determined

Tomorrow is my quit day. I restarted smoking 5 years ago after quitting for 6 years. I lasted 4 weeks before Christmas before starting again and have struggled to stop again. Day 4 seems to be my problem time and I gave in.

Well you have again taken a couple of positive steps Nic468 in joining this wonderful, supportive group and in being determined in your endeavor. Being positive goes a long way in succeeding in this journey, and making a heck of a lot easier overall with the right mindset or thinking. You can remember life as a non-smoker and I am sure will accept and adapt to that idea much more quickly, while others have an underlying fear of the unknown. They don't know what to do with the extra time, how they will get through stressful times, let alone social situations.
Read and Learn. Arm yourself with some tools, and an array of strategies to get through the cravings. They are really only thoughts , fleeting ones usually, but short lived at any rate. Know that it means your are resisting and that the nicotine monster is begging for you to feed him. Know that you are in control and winning. As long as you remain positive, he will go away.
Eat a breakfast, drink water and cut your caffeine in half when you quit nicotine so as not to confuse symptoms as withdrawal. Nicotine used to absorb the caffeine effects in a sense, feed your body to help detox. Ginger is supposed to help with cravings. I now just take my turmeric and ginger heated in almond milk with a dash of allspice. The spices all have great health benefits. Add honey or sugar to taste.
Remember there is no reason to stay smoking and a long , long list to stop. You can do this!

Hi Nic468. Thanks for the reminder. Once a smoker always a smoker and the road to failure is just one puff away. We count the days we are free but must never weaken. Hope this site gives you a chance to vent and to convince yourself that you really have the will to quit with the rest of us.
