quit today

Hi,
I've decided to quit today. I quit for seven days recently but I took it back up again. It's going to be hard this time around. I tell myself to allow the urge to pass and I have several thoughts to keep myself moving forward. I don't have the energy and motivation I had when I was younger so it's going to be more of a hard slog. I'll have to follow through and then experience the good feelings that come with quitting. I'm going to a singing group tonight so that will be nice and I'll feel better afterwards. Has anyone got any feedback for me because I get the feeling that this time it's going to be quite hard aqn I'm going to have to endure and struggle through some pretty intense feelings.

I had help with my journey through Champix, however this forum was probably more important
i think the first few week i was on this site either reading other peoples posts or writing my own every day and some days multiple times a day, but it helped me so much to get the things out of my head and get through that day or hour without lighting a cigarette
you know you can do this you have already done 7 days without before slipping
unfortunately we are addicts which means to us that there is no such thing as one cigarette or one puff
yes it is hard, but so worth it just remember you are fighting yourself so try and distract your brain when you get that urge
it does get better, i am 3 years smoke free now and i still get the urge for a cigarette every now and then, but for me i know there is no such thing as one
so hang in there you can do this Good Luck

There are 3 things advisable to do when quitting smoking. Eat breakfast, Drink plenty of water and cut caffeine by half . Herbal or green teas would be a good substitute for your coffee/hot chocolate, but don't just stop or you may wind up with a headache from caffeine withdrawal. Think positive and learn. Once you make up your mind to quit, you will. Stop idolizing it and feeling like you are giving something up, when in fact you are making a decision to better your life, not only for yourself but your loved ones.

Thanks very much for your advice. I quit yesterday but I have to say I couldn't handle it this morning and I ended up smoking and am not ready and will leave it for another time. I might post here and there on icanquit to remind myself that at some stage I will have another attempt at it. thanks for your advice- much appreciated.

Please don't give up before taking the time to read my post "Given Up Given Up? Try this. " While implimenting it, also read Allan Carr's Book, free on line that i also posted.
Anyone can quit smoking. Read and learn. Find your motivation . Think positive , arm yourself with tools and ideas and go for it. Believe that you can and you will!
