Keep trying

I quit when i was 18 years old for 2 years. Then i quit again when i was 28 for 3 years. Started smoking again. Now im 45 and on my 24th day without a cigarette. The urge to have a dart is sudden but subsides in about 30 seconds. That's me though. I guess everyone has their own way to quit but i was wasting a terrible lot of money on tobacco and now I'm sick of having a dependency let alone coughing my guts up every morning. I just know i have to keep going. Why waste 24 days of hard withdrawals? Hopefully they will subside but i know that I'll always be addicted. Another reason why I'm doing this is for my best friend Geoff who died 3 weeks ago. He was an alcoholic. I just wished i did this a lot sooner to be an example for him but i will quit for him and my daughter. Like him she hates cigarettes. I'm currently using patches which are a great help though they are giving me the most vivid and crazy dreams! I don't know if I'm sleeping or awake half the time.lol

Hi Archer
I am new here and saw that you responded to someones question about a new program. Nice of you to support others but i was wondering how you were doing. You seem to think you are doomed to this addiction. Read some post of mine, of red 67 , there is hope if you truly want to quit and not be plaqued by cravings. Even when you get through to just simply quitting nicotine you are a winner. Hopefully the cravings will diminish in intensity and be a long time inbetween. I am 2 weeks smoke free, cold turkey and no cravings after 5th day. Hope some of the information will help you. Best of luck.

Hello again Archer. I have no idea whether you have remained free of cigarettes or still on the patch. Have you followed the stories member have posted and tried to change your way of thinking and your relationship with nicotine?
I made post with ideas to try for those "Given Up on Given Up" that you may be interested in. I sure would love anyfeed back from anyone giving it a go, or even support or criticism. I do hope it may help some to spark the desire to become a non-smoker yet again.
All the Best to You,
Happiness

Well it has now been 3 months since I've had a smoke. I've put on 2 kilos due to eating more but am no longer on patches. I do get the occasional craving but they are becoming fewer and farther between. I do believe this is it for me. I don't want to smoke ever again and I'm thoroughly enjoying the extra money. Now i have to try and talk the mrs into quiting. I've been putting her under the pump but not too much pressure because i didn't like being over pressured myself. Smokers will quit in their own time or not at all though it's making me cranky the amount of money she's blowing on the cigarettes. I was smoking tobacco which was cheaper but when tje price got to $70 for a 50gm packet i couldnt stomach it. That is a major reason why i quit. Now i want to work on fitness.

I am glad that you are doing so well and replacing a terrible addiction with a better lifestyle. My spouse quit two weeks after i did. Even thought he was the one to bring it up from time to time, when he came home one day and i told him i was quitting, he told me later that he was terrified. He was terrified that he would have to quit too. Then he saw how easy it was, but he wanted to read Allan Carr's Easy Way. It is a great book that allays all the fear with good old logic. Perhaps you could get your wife to read it.
You may be interested in something i posted. "If you've Given Up Given Up. Try This!!!) A quit method for the feint at heart. Maybe your wife would be interested if she wasn't so afraid, or had the confidence to do it. We all know that secretly all smokers Wish they could quit.
Although i don't recommend the e-vap because the verdict is not out on how safe it is, i think that regardless it is better than smoking the poisons in a cigarette, and her lungs would benefit and thank you for not depositing any more tar. At least the e-juice is cheaper, and you won't have to inhale the smoke.
Keep strong and smoke free. Give the wife a nudge and kiss!
