Hi all, I have been smoking for 35 years. When I was younger i was a very heavy smoker. I have tried to give up many times but have always got back on them. Day 1 is done and now into day 2. I am more determined than ever. It is my time to quit. My wife smokes but I have given up before with the smokes in the house. I feel like garbage but I know that will pass. I am 53 and have had enough of them.

Good for you. You can do it! I am on day 3 & struggling today, BUT Im not going to give in.

Just the cost alone is enough to make me quit, let alone feeling like an outsider at every thing you go to.

I have envied poeople who have given up, I just wanted to do it too. Now I have, I am not going back to smoking!

Freedom, is quitting!

Good luck yeah i guess for me it was the first 2 weeks they are the hardest when quitting especially if you can't have a drink with it for me too the NRT's are very addictive more and more people i've heard now are going cold turkey which is ok but much harder

I'm 53 too, and been smoking for about the same time as you. I have failed miserably in the past trying to quit...so I need to get serious too.

Thanks all. I have done a some things differently this time. On Monday night I hung the calendar up for my family to see and said tomorrow is my quit day !!

Tuesday night I marked the calendar with my first cross. I want my kids to see me marking the calendar off every night for as long as it takes.

Tonestar - do it when you are comfortable and ready - it will feel right. I will be putting my second cross up tonight.
