Weighed decisions are all a life is really made up of in the end.
Started Champix/Chantix today, so the urge to smoke will dissipate over the next week. I've been planning this one for months, and I've got a month free from Uni. I figure I should make a good go of this while some of the stress is alleviated. This is my third attempt in fifteen years. I'm 28 this year. Each time you quit you really do get better at it. Unaddressed mental health issues are also cumulative, and compress over time though too. Last time I had a cardiovascular event while on Chantix - eight weeks in - I still stayed quit for almost a further year however. The Dr told me afterwards "you have anxiety and depression", so I haven't been managing stress well it seems. I think it is only mild-to-moderate though, I haven't had to brace medication for it - this also means treatment is less complicated. This put me in the mindset that I can make a good go of this because the lesser pains suffered are for some greater pleasure experienced in the end. I see a psychologist to 'talk' sometimes and I have made lifestyle changes - the smoking change has been the hardest. This time, I know the medication works, and I know how great I feel when I am smoke-free(the memory is so recent I can still recall my mindset). I just have to manage my anxiety and depression so I don't have a repeat of last time, and in time, it will lessen my mental health problems. I think this community can appreciate my situation because we find ourselves in similar predicaments together. The benefits of this will always outweigh the risks, so I better make a good go of this.
Thanks, Robin. I cleared out all the smoking paraphernalia today and will wash the curtains and walls tomorrow to really get the smell out of the house lol. A fresh start ay. I live with smokers, they've been kind enough to agree to smoke only their rooms or outside, and keep the common areas free from smoke. I didn't know that smoking is actually making my anxiety worse! Thank you for your informative response. Knowing this now certainly makes it imperative that I keep on track and find healthier ways to handle my problems. How are you proceeding along your journey? Do you loathe cigarettes now?
