Quitting after 43 years

It's been 43 years of smoking. I've tried quitting umpteen times and failed miserably every time. The time before this I quit for 6 months and bam I started up again. :( This time I had a health scare, I got really sick with a cold/flu and went to the doctors several times because I couldn't kick it. So I asked for an x-ray of my lungs to see if maybe I had pneumonia. The results of the x-ray were negative as the test for flu, but said I had a large spot on the lower part of my lung right side and possibly emphysema! My doctor scheduled me right away for a CT Scan. I read up on emphysema and every kind of thought went through my mind about the spot on my lungs, I thought it was cancer! The results came back and all was negative to cancer and emphysema. Thank god. I was so scared. I have 3 little grandbabies, a son and a daughter and all I could think of was I wasn't going to be around to see my grandchildren grow up or my son or daughter get married. I was relieved that the results came back negative, BUT I thought this was a sign to quit smoking once and for all. So I've not picked up a cigarette for 55 days 7 hrs and 6 minutes lol but who's counting. I AM! I started with Chantix and am weaning myself off Chantix as I do not want another habit. My moods swings are unbearable sometimes. I go off the edge on such little things people say to me. I'm so sensitive. I still don't smoke though, I drink water, chew on ice chips, or go on the play a game on my phone to distract me. Try Cessation Nation! It's helped me through a lot lately. Thank you for hearing my story.

The health scare yes should be a wake up call as long as you don't smoke again and if you feel tempted to log in here to talk. it is like red was saying about been a slave to a cigarette. keep up with health checks to make sure your not getting cancers/emphesima and yes it is possible to quit smoking.
