Getting sick is a great time to quit

Got sick with upper respiratory infection as of Monday. By Tuesday morning I was worried it was going to my chest so I decided this was my chance to quit. Tuesday I only smoked the one cigarette and no more. So far it’s been 24 hours and I’m not over the infection but I believe it would have definitely gotten worse if I continued smoking like I always did in the past. Now I just have to keep this mindset and remember the multitude of other reasons NOT to smoke.

Thank you and I will definitely adopt that mindset! The people here are so helpful, I am feel lucky to I found this site. Today is day 3 and still going strong! The tips and encouragement from you and other posts are so huge to me right now! I can’t say thank you enough!

Wow 45 years! Good for you for not letting the demon cigarettes slave drive you anymore! I feel that way too, just relieved that I don’t have to worry about it anymore. It’s a burden lifted off my shoulders and I feel free. I read the celery thing recently, think I’ll give that a shot! So far I’ve been eating cinnamon altoids. Not sure why they work for me but seems to help so far. My question now is what do people do when they’re around smokers and catch a whiff? I unfortunately live with one! Thankfully he smokes outside (of course I used to too) and I know better than to attempt forcing him to quit as he hopefully will see me get thru it and have encouragement. But what did you do when you were caught off guard or by that sudden whiff you weren’t anticipating? Still keep with celery or my altoids? In some ways I don’t want to run from it because I need to be able to face the smell and not have a relapse. How long did it take you to get to that point?

Hi there . It is never too late to try again. See my story "if you've Given Up Given Up. Try This!!!. Who knows it may just work! Best to you .
