Don't start

My son died. While going through his things I found a pack of cigarettes. I didn't even know he smoked. I thought "who cares", so I smoked a cigarette. That was my downfall. I kept smoking cause I thought it would ease the pain. So stupid! Now, I am so sad and don't care. This is not how I want to remember my boy. It was such a horrible thing and this is no way to honor my son. I desperately want to quit. But, I have really isolated myself and think who cares

Hi OrangeRose, I hope you are getting some help to guide you through your grief, please ask for it if you are not, your GP is a good place to start.

I am not telling you anything you don't already know, but just a reminder, cigarettes are not your friend, they are making you feel worse, not better and you deserve to feel better.

They do make me feel worse both spiritually and physically

I know this yet it has such a hold. Why wouldI let them in my life,! Since I am so secretive about smoking, I try to deny it to even myself.

Thank you for caring

I care and pray and hope for each of you.

Smoking does make you feel worse, it doesn't make you feel better. I'm so sorry for your loss, and hope that you can find another way to cope.

You are so right. That is why I am going to quit. It's like a diversion in my life. I really can't explain. Smoking takes so much away in my life. I am working on health. Hope you are well on your jouney

I'm just 1.5 days in and I feel that this site is already giving me a lot of support.

Actually, I've seen a psychologist recently to help me deal with some issues that I know were connected with smoking.

Could I suggest that you seek some similar help to decouple your grieving from smoking and deal with it separately.

As I understand it, your GP can prescribe you 10 sessions per year which would be covered my Medicare.

Hi OrangeRose. What a sad story you tell. Here at icanquit anyone reading your story would feel your pain. The same cannot be said for cigarettes. They don't fix anything, just make it worse. Do get professional help. Don't try to get through this on your own and by all means do lean on this community. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
